Whether you’re moving to just the next city over or you’re moving thousands of miles away overseas, moving can bring a myriad of challenges to homeowners. Homeowners need to select the right boxes for the move, make an inventory of their property, contact moving companies, get quotes, and pack up everything they own. Add car shipping or custom crating for antiques, and the complexity will only increase. One way to cut down on the stress and the hassle, however, is by working with one of the best moving companies in Arkansas.

During my secret shopping, I contacted a number of Arkansas movers. I completed thorough reviews of their websites and testimonials. I also received some information about their services and costs through phone calls, emails, and texts that aren’t readily available online. Through this research, I was able to identify the top brands that can make your move easier depending on your unique needs.

Your Arkansas move, whether locally, interstate, or internationally, is not without its challenges. By working with one of these top choices, you can take some stress out of the moving equation. In this article, I’ve highlighted my five choices for the best moving companies in Arkansas and also provided you with some must-know details regarding common moving scams, average moving costs, and more.

Top 5 Arkansas Moving Companies

American Van Lines: Most Transparent Pricing
Highlights
  • If moving to, from, or within Arkansas, I recommend Moving APT. Their vast network of movers means they can deliver a number of moving services. Plus, they serve customers in both the United States and 180 countries. However, if you want to tackle packing, loading, unloading, and unpacking yourself and save some cash, I’d suggest U-Pack. It’s a more cost-effective option, and their services will meet the majority of homeowners’ needs.
  • For those pressed for time, full-packing services can make a move less stressful and more hands-off. It’s important to note that full-packing services can cost upwards of $1,000, even for just a two-bedroom home. Doing your own packing can save you some serious cash.
  • Moving scams, such as holding your items hostage or no-showing after receiving a deposit, are common in Arkansas and the entire United States. Reading over contracts, checking credentials, and knowing your rights can help protect you from scams and fraudulent companies.

My Expert Recommendation

For homeowners looking to move in or out of Arkansas, I recommend Moving APT. A broker, the company, and its over 2,500 moving partners are able to offer all of the services a homeowner is looking for, from the basics to custom crating and home staging to full-service packing. They service all 50 states and 180 countries. Whether you’re moving from Little Rock to Hot Springs or Fayetteville to Seattle, WA, Moving APT can help.

For those customers who want to save some cash and tackle most of the move themselves in Arkansas, there is also U-Pack. This company is a carrier, so you’ll be working from U-Pack from start to finish. Though they don’t offer nearly as many services and customization options as Moving APT or any other company on this list, the container service is a great way to save money and simplify the moving process.

Arkansas Moving Companies I Didn’t Include

I didn’t include International Van Lines because I’ve had less than stellar experiences with the company. Whether through phone calls or the chat function on their website, getting a hold of a representative and getting answers to many of my questions has proved difficult. Positive reviews cite customer service as a highlight, but my own experience with the company has been frustrating.

I also did not include Mayflower Moving for two reasons: their quoting process and reviews. When receiving a quote from Mayflower, they’re unable to give you one over the phone without an in-home or virtual assessment but rather give you a ballpark estimate. Their reviews are also difficult to pin down as they’re under the parent company Unigroup, and Mayflower doesn’t have their own BBB, Google, or Yelp profiles.

Our Reviews of the Best Moving Companies in Arkansas

Most Transparent Pricing

American Van Lines

4.0

Our Rating

Limited Time Offer:
Price Matching Available

American Van Lines is one company I highly recommend in Arkansas due to their high reviews. Some companies may have high reviews on one review site, but AVL has more than four stars on the BBB, Trustpilot, and Google as of this writing. The only place they fall behind is Yelp. Customers leaving stellar reviews comment about excellent service from representatives and crews from the quoting process to unpacking.

AVL also ranks highly in transparency, as their website offers a wealth of information that is often unmatched by competitors. Each page provides tips for your move but also details what you can expect when moving with the brand. While the emails may be lacking in a breakdown of services or pricing, you can get most of the information right on their website. Part of the reason for this informative website is the fact that AVL is solely a carrier. Brokers/carriers and brokers operate with partners and, therefore, services aren’t going to be the same price or even include the same solutions from partner to partner. When you work with AVL, their services and solutions will be nearly identical whether you’re moving from Little Rock to Fayetteville or Arkansas City to Portland, Maine.

However, AVL isn’t going to fit everyone’s moving needs. They don’t offer as many services as other brands, and they don’t operate outside of the continental United States. For customers facing a more complex move, American Van Lines isn’t going to be the best choice.

American Van Lines is a top choice for me in Arkansas, largely due to its high reviews across trusted review sites. As of this writing, the company has a 4.07 out of 5 and A+ on the Better Business Bureau (BBB), a 4.3 on Trustpilot, and a 4.2 on Google. Only a few companies I’ve contacted can match or come close to those high numbers. Customers talk time and time again about standout customer service experiences and smooth sailing from point A to point B.

Another highlight of AVL is their website. Many competitors simply provide tips on their websites and don’t really get into the nitty-gritty of what their services include. AVL is different. Not only does the company have moving tips and an informative blog, but each page breaks down what customers can expect when working with the brand.

American Van Lines, however, falls short when compared to other companies due to their lack of services and customization options. They’re not exactly a one-stop shop for all your moving needs. They don’t handle international moves, car shipping, and junk removal, services many other brands provide. In addition, AVL only operates in the lower 48 states, so those looking to move in or out of Alaska or Hawaii will have to go to the competition.

And while the website is a highlight, their emails leave something to be desired. They provide some information about the quote and additional fees a homeowner might incur during their move, but compared to the competition, the emails are barebones. There are no resources to help you move, like JK Moving Services, or a breakdown of what the quote includes, like Safeway Moving.

American Van Lines offers almost every basic service we look for, except international moving, which resulted in them getting a 9 out of 10 in basic services. Loading and unloading are included in the quote you receive, and packing and unpacking are available for an extra fee. In fact, AVL was a top choice for me for full-service moves, too. The company is available to tackle your packing even if you don’t go with them for your move. American Van Lines also has regular, high-value, and climate-controlled personal storage vaults, depending on your needs, with 24-hour security cameras. 30 days of storage are included when you move with AVL, but customers are welcome to use the storage facilities longer for a fee. Their storage solutions are also available if you only need a place to put your stuff during a home remodel.

Cost

American Van Line is transparent about their pricing on their website, but emailed quotes don’t have as much information as I’ve seen in other companies’ emailed estimates. Only some additional fees are listed, and the email doesn’t contain a breakdown of how they determine cost beyond a weight and “transportation fee.” I was also offered a springtime promotion, but I’m not quite sure how much that saved me, as the quote doesn’t say and the representative didn’t let me know over the phone.

For a two-bedroom home and an estimated 2,898 pounds moving from Mobile, AL, to Dallas, TX, I received the following quote:

  • Self-service option: $3,513.99
  • Full-service option: $4,459.59

Editor’s Note: The cost data provided in this article is based on Today’s Homeowner’s standardized sample moving scenario from Mobile, AL, to Dallas, TX, for a single-family home, with a move date set 8 weeks away. Please be aware that these estimates may vary depending on factors such as additional services required and market fluctuations. The cost data presented was accurate at the time of writing.

Today’s Homeowner Tips
Moving companies can base quotes on expected weight or space. For brands that use weight, it’s important to note that companies can deliver very different weight estimates even when you provide them with the same inventory. Opting for a home walkthrough or virtual assessment can help you get a more accurate quote.

Available Discounts

Over the phone, they informed me that AVL had a springtime promotion, but failed to specify how much that would actually save me. Simply asking for a discount may get you some cash off on your quote, too, especially if they’re running one of these seasonal promos. American Van Lines also has discounts right on their website between various cities in the United States, though none are in Arkansas as of this writing. In addition, they offer a senior discount.

American Van Lines’s lowest score is customization, at just a 7. They lost some points due to the fact they don’t offer car shipping, home staging, and junk removal. Those services can make it easier to move cross country, sell your house for more money, and have assistance cleaning your former home. Meanwhile, AVL sells packing materials, offers piano moving, and can assist with special item transportation, including custom crating for heavy or bulky property. In addition, AVL provides two types of valuation coverage: Full Value Protection (FVP) and Released Value Protection (RVP). Full Value Protection starts at $6 per pound, costs an additional fee, and comes with an optional deductible. RVL, on the other hand, is free, has no deductibles, and covers $0.60 per pound per item. On the website, they state that FVP is standard. However, in my quote, I was only offered RVL.

American Van Lines has a stellar reputation, with a 4.07 and A+ on the BBB, a 4.3 on Trustpilot, and a 4.2 on Google as of this writing. These high ratings and a claimed Trustpilot profile resulted in them receiving a 10 in reputation. Customers stated that they received accurate moving estimates, affordable specialty services, prompt arrivals and delivery, and a seamless experience with the brand. On Yelp, however, the majority of reviews only have one star. Many of these clients explain that items were left behind at their previous homes, there was difficulty filing insurance claims, and their property was damaged upon delivery.

Most Common Praise for American Van Lines

Customers who used American Van Lines and left high reviews detail a standout experience from start to finish. Representatives were helpful and informative, quotes were on point, and movers were efficient and packed items well. Reviews also tout prompt communication and professionalism.

Most Common Criticism for American Van Lines

On Yelp, where a majority of reviews are one-star, a customer explains that their property was damaged and items were left behind at their old house, including a push mower, antique mirror, and two large stereo speakers. Other customers leaving one-star ratings say their experience was much the same.

American Van Lines is the most transparent company on this list at 8.7. Arkansans can get insight into AVL’s pricing through the sample pricing on their website, but sadly, none of the examples are to or from Arkansas. In addition, homeowners can use the quick quote feature on the website to get an estimate. It’s easy to book either online or over the phone, and the company offers binding estimates. They’re also clear about their status as a broker/carrier (they’re a carrier). AVL lost points due to their lack of clearly listed fees and the fact that GPS tracking, while available in some areas of the country, isn’t available on all of their trucks.

Best Flat-rate Pricing

Safeway Moving

4.1

Our Rating

Limited Time Offer:
No current offers available.

Safeway Moving’s approach to quotes is what sets them apart for me. With estimates based on space rather than weight, if you go into a quoting process with measurements, you stand to walk away with a more accurate quote. When talking to other movers that use a weight-based system, I’ve found that, even with the same exact inventory, they’ll return with wildly different weight estimates (2,500 vs 6,000 lb, for example). The quotes Safeway delivers are also very informative, explaining what something costs and what’s included in your price.

Safeway’s website, however, leaves something to be desired. Customers can read the whole page in just a minute or two, and there are no resources that explain how they handle antiques, their differentials as a full-service mover, or what you can really expect when working with the brand. It’s just basic information. Some of it is also out of date or contradictory to what I’ve been told over the phone. For example, the website says “30 days of free storage,” yet the representative over the phone says it’s 45 days.

Overall, Safeway Moving does have strong services, plenty of customization options, and a strong reputation, even though they come in on the lower side for transparency.

Our choice for best flat-rate pricing, Safeway Moving offers quotes based on space used in the truck rather than weight. This can lead to more accurate quoting processes and fewer additional fees. If you have a small bookcase made of mahogany rather than plywood, for example, that extra weight isn’t going to cost you. You’ll simply pay for how much space your items use up in the truck, and there’s less guesswork involved when getting a quote.

Safeway’s moving quote emails are also extremely informative. They break down your entire estimate, showing you how they arrived at this price, how much each specialty packing box costs, and how much you saved through their first-time customer discount.

As informative as their quotes are, their website is anything but. The company really has a bare-bones online presence, and finding information about their various offerings is impossible without contacting Safeway. You won’t get insight into what sets their moving services, storage, or crews apart, and certain aspects of their website can be misleading.

Safeway Moving isn’t a local mover and can only assist with long-distance moving. So, if you’re looking to stay within Arkansas, you should choose another company. This can be disappointing, especially if you’re looking to work with a moving company that bases their quotes on space rather than weight.

Although Safeway Moving can assist you whether you’re moving long-distance, interstate, or internationally from Arkansas, they don’t help with local moves. This scored them an eight for basic services. Their website lacks information regarding their packing, unpacking, and storage services, but I was able to find some information during my secret shopping. Loading and unloading are included in the quote, but full packing services cost extra. Unpacking is another additional fee. Storage is also included in the quote, but how long you can store your items is not clear. The representative I spoke to and the top of the quote say 45 days. However, their website and the bottom of the quote say 30 days.

Safeway Moving’s free quote emails are some of the most informative I’ve found when speaking with moving companies in Arkansas. It explains what’s included in the estimate and how much everything costs. For a self-service move, my quote included the basic estimate price, fuel surcharge, origin/destination fee, and basic valuation protection. For a full-service move, the quote included the full packing service and packing materials. The email further explained that the full-service packing can cost between $1.00 and $1.50 per cubic foot, depending on the location and time of year. My springtime quote was at $1.50 per cubic foot.

For a 588-mile move from Mobile, AL, and Dallas, TX, for a two-bedroom home, they provided the following quote:

  • Self-packing option: $4,030.19
  • Full-service option: $4,826.69

Editor’s Note: The cost data provided in this article is based on Today’s Homeowner’s standardized sample moving scenario from Mobile, AL, to Dallas, TX, for a single-family home, with a move date set 8 weeks away. Available Discounts

Safeway Moving offers a first-time customer discount to new clients. Mine was for $200. You may receive further discounts, but the company isn’t clear on their website about whether they offer any. During a previous call to Safeway, they informed me that I could get a lower quote if I booked in the next day or two. Asking for a price reduction could land you some deep savings.

When it comes to customization, Safeway Moving earned a nine based on our criteria. The only service option they’re missing is home staging; however, only one moving company on this list offers this. Like many other full-service movers, assembly and disassembly of basic furniture are included in the quote. Safeway can also handle piano, car, antique, and special item moving, as well as custom crating and junk removal. Basic valuation coverage is included in the quote at $0.60 per lb with a maximum cargo protection of $10,000.

Basic valuation coverage at $0.60 per lb per unit is required by all full-service movers in the United States. Additional insurance may be available through the company, though options and coverage availability vary. Insurance policies may not cover damages to items that the company did not pack. Always read over the fine print of your contract and insurance before signing a binding estimate.

Reviews for Safeway Moving range from a 4.3 on Trustpilot to a 1.4 on Yelp as of this writing. With a B- on the BBB and a claimed Trustpilot profile, we gave them a nine for reputation. Customers who had a good experience with the company state they had a smooth experience from beginning to end with on-time delivery and professional and helpful crews. Those who had bad experiences, however, explained that they received late deliveries, broken items, and inaccurate quoting processes.

Most Common Praise for Safeway Moving

Common praise for Safeway Moving among 5-star reviews includes smooth moves, constant communication, and exceeding expectations. Many clients talk about how they regularly received updates on their property during every part of the journey.

Most Common Criticism for Safeway Moving

Customers leaving one-star reviews explain that they had the exact opposite experience. These clients stated that boxes were tossed and items were not handled with care. Another complaint was inaccurate estimates, with one explaining that they saw an unexpected increase of 34% even though they submitted a three-minute video of their one-bedroom apartment.

Safeway Moving’s transparency score is the lowest at seven but still strong overall. The company has a quick quote feature, posted customer service hours, online and over-the-phone booking, binding estimates, and clearly listed additional fees (their website states no extra fees). As a carrier, Safeway discloses this status and offers GPS tracking on some of their trucks. However, their website doesn’t contain a lot of information and provides no sample pricing for customers.

Best Quoting Experience

Moving APT

3.9

Our Rating

Limited Time Offer:
Use Code APT23 For 20% Off

Moving APT is a top choice for me thanks to their easy quoting experience, the vast number of moving partners, and a wealth of services. I was able to walk away with a detailed quote in my email inbox in just 10 minutes. When other companies take 24 hours to get back to you, keep you on the phone for 30 or 40 minutes, or require a virtual or in-home walkthrough, this can save you a lot of time and effort.

Thanks to their over 2,500 moving partners, Moving APT is also equipped with the ability to handle anything a customer is looking for in a moving company. They’re actually the only organization on this list that offers home staging as a service. In addition, they have teams that are able to handle antique moving, custom crating, and other specialty services.

Moving APT falls extremely short in transparency. This could be due to their status as a broker. Since they work with so many partners, they may not want to display sample pricing or fees. However, that doesn’t explain their lack of posted customer service hours and the fact that there is no GPS tracking option available on its trucks.

Moving APT is our choice for the best quoting experience, and for good reason. Whenever I called the company, I had a quick and efficient quoting process. The representatives moved through the checklist at a fast pace, and even though other companies use nearly the same checklist, I was off the phone in just 10 minutes. Compare that to other brands with 30-minute (or longer) phone calls or required home assessments. The follow-up email I received was very informative, too.

This brand also offers a number of services. In fact, they’re the only moving company on this list that has a 10 in both basic services and customization. Whether you want to move locally in Arkansas or stage your home ahead of its sale, Moving APT and its partners have you covered.

Moving APT’s website isn’t as lacking as Safeway’s, but it isn’t the most informative. This brand is a broker and works with over 2,500 moving companies as partners. Many of the pages on their website, therefore, focus on their various partners but explain very little about the services they offer beyond basic details and very broad cost estimates.

They also come extremely low in transparency. The company doesn’t post customer service hours on their website and provides no information for pricing beyond those broad cost estimates. GPS tracking is not available through any of the companies Moving APT partners with.

Moving APT earned a 10 in basic services as they offer everything a customer could want, from local moving to storage services and international solutions to full-service packing. If you’re moving out of Arkansas and the United States, they likely have a partner that can help as they serve 180 countries. For full-service moves, Moving APT and its agents offer the Standard Full-Service Move and Platinum Full Packing Service Move, depending on your individual needs, both of which include one month of free storage.

Moving APT, like Safeway Moving, has a very informative email with your quote. Prospective customers can see what they’re paying for. My quote included a price breakdown for the basic estimate price, fuel surcharge, packing materials, and booking fee. They also informed me that the Standard Full Service Move estimate included one free month of storage, basic limited liability protection, assembly and disassembly of standard furniture, and blanket wrapping of furniture. The Platinum Full Packing Service Move included all of those services, as well as packing materials, packing service, cardboard crating, and fragile crating.

For a move from Maybrook, NY, to Carrboro, NC, a distance of 573 miles, for a two-bedroom home, I received the following quote:

  • Standard Full-Service Move: $2,700
  • Platinum Full Packing Service Move (without unpacking): $3,700
  • Platinum Full Packing Service Move with Full Value Protection: $4,522.64

Editor’s Note: The cost data provided in this article is based on Today’s Homeowner’s standardized sample moving scenario from Maybrook, NY, to Carrboro, NC, for a single-family home, with a move date set eight weeks away. Please be aware that these estimates may vary depending on factors such as additional services required and market fluctuations. The cost data presented was accurate at the time of writing.

Available Discounts

The quote I received from Moving APT included two discounts: a 5% coupon off the basic estimate price and fuel surcharge and a three-day pickup window flexibility coupon. If you have some flexibility in your pickup date, you could save some serious cash. Mine took $1,275.87 off of the final price. In addition, there is a 15% coupon through their quick quote feature if you opt to give them your name and email after using the tool.

Moving APT is the only company on this list that scored a perfect 10 in customization. You can purchase packing materials through their partners, and they offer piano moving, car shipping, antique moving, and custom crating if you need something beyond the basics. For those looking to get extra money through their home’s sale, there’s home staging, and if you need assistance cleaning up before your move, there’s also junk removal. Valuation coverage is available through Moving APT. Basic limited liability protection of $0.60 per lb per article is included in the quote, but customers can opt for a bit more with Full Value Protection (FVP).

Moving APT comes in at 7.8 for reputation. They lost some points due to their lower BBB rating (a B+ as of this writing) and the fact that they haven’t claimed their Trustpilot profile. Reviews on the BBB and Google tend to be in the middle of the road (at 3.53 and 3.7, respectively), but on Yelp, it is only 1.3. Positive reviews speak of experienced crews, standout customer service, and a great overall moving experience. On the other side of the fence, negative reviews cite hidden fees, major delivery delays, and damages to their new home during unloading. Moving APT is responsive to reviews, both positive and negative, on Google but doesn’t respond to reviews on Yelp.

Most Common Praise for Moving APT

Customers who had positive experiences with Moving APT stated that they had polite and professional crews on moving day that were very efficient when packing, loading, and unloading. In addition, customers said they received regular updates during the move, which instilled confidence in the company.

Most Common Criticism for Moving APT

Moving APT does have a lot of negative reviews with vastly different experiences. A customer on Google said that their quote “doubled at pickup.” Another client on Yelp explained that they had been unable to get a hold of the moving company for over a month and that they hadn’t received their items.

Moving APT is the lowest on this list in transparency at just a 5.3 out of 10. While the website has a quick quote feature and offers you a discount for using it, it lacks accurate sample pricing and clear additional fees that you could incur during your move. With many reviews citing unexpected moving costs on and after moving day, listing additional fees on the website could deliver peace of mind to Arkansans. The company does disclose their status as a broker but doesn’t offer GPS tracking or have clearly posted customer service hours. Moving APT did manage to get some other points for their online and over-the-phone booking options and binding estimates.

Most Customizable Moving Experience

JK Moving Services

4.2

Our Rating

Limited Time Offer:
No current offers available.

When I contacted JK Moving Services, I always had a very responsive representative who was happy to answer my questions. Although the quoting process can take a while, the representatives offered to walk me through the process and sent me videos and PDFs explaining what I could expect. JK Moving also has a standout reputation and offers many of the services homeowners need in a moving company, thanks to their many customization options. Plus, these movers have years of experience, having been in the industry since 1982. As a carrier/broker, they’re able to serve over 170 countries.

My biggest issue with JK Moving Services for homeowners looking to move in Arkansas is the much higher quote I received compared to other brands. JK Moving bases the moving quote on weight, and I received vastly different weight estimates depending on the company. JK Moving, for example, stated that it would be 6,050 lbs worth of items that needed to be moved, while American Van Lines’s estimate was just under 3,000 lbs. In addition, since the quoting process took so long, there may have been miscommunications between the first representative I spoke to and the second. I had to repeat the answers to some questions with the second representative that I answered on the first call, so it’s possible they didn’t have all the data. JK Moving could also be overestimating on purpose so they don’t overcharge you, and you can be happier when the quote comes in lower after the virtual assessment.

JK Moving Services’s quoting process can be lengthy, but every time I’ve contacted the brand for quotes, the representatives have been extremely helpful, kind, and responsive. If I have a follow-up question or ask for clarification, I have a response in my email inbox in less than an hour, even during off-hours. The email quotes I received also included videos, PDFs, and other documents that helped me understand what I could expect if I decided to work with JK Moving.

In addition, this organization has great reviews. Although not as high as American Van Lines, they’re one of the highest-reviewed brands on this list, with an A+ and 3.82 on the BBB, 4.5 on Google, and 3.5 on Yelp. Customers had similar experiences with me early on, with standout representatives during the quoting process.

Compared to other companies I’ve reached out to, JK Moving Services is on the more expensive side. While comparable moves from other moving brands’ quotes tended to range from $2,000 to $5,000, the representative from JK Moving returned with a quote of $7,522 to $9,388. This could be due to brands using different metrics to estimate the weight of items that require moving.

The quoting process also takes a bit. I was never able to get a quote from JK Moving while I was on the phone with them. Instead, I had to wait until the following day to receive a ballpark estimate and found out I needed to undergo a virtual assessment in order to get a more accurate quote.

Serving over 170 countries and all of the United States, JK Moving Services is equipped with trucks and partners that can handle wherever you happen to move to, including local, international, and long-distance moving. JK Moving also offers a full-packing service, fragile-only packing, and DIY assistance. If your home isn’t quite ready to move into, this organization does have storage services that include 24/7 video surveillance, motion sensors, climate-controlled storage solutions, and fire suppression systems.

JK Moving Services’s emails are extremely informative but don’t break down costs as much as other companies do. At the moment, because I haven’t undergone a virtual survey, I don’t have a binding estimate in hand. To get an accurate quote, customers have to use the JK Moving Services app to submit 30 to 60 videos of the items in their homes that need to be moved. Only then will JK Moving send you an official quote. The estimate I received from the organization is much higher than any other brand on this list, and the lack of a virtual survey could be the reason. The representative might have overestimated the amount of items in order to be safe and not surprise me with a much higher quote after the virtual assessment.

For a two-bedroom home moving from Mobile, AL, to Dallas, TX, and an estimated weight of 6,050 lbs, I receive the following quoted:

  • Self-service option: $7,522
  • Full-service option: $9,388

Editor’s Note: The cost data provided in this article is based on Today’s Homeowner’s standardized sample moving scenario from Mobile, AL, to Dallas, TX, for a single-family home, with a move date set eight weeks away. Please be aware that these estimates may vary depending on factors such as additional services required and market fluctuations. The cost data presented was accurate at the time of writing.

For some moves, depending on the location, they include full-service packing in the price, saving customers some big bucks. JK Moving Services also offers financing options, a unique solution among moving companies, for as little as 0% interest if approved. In addition, future Brookfield Residential residents and customers can get 2% off of their moving quote.

For customization, JK Moving Services earned a nine, only losing a point due to their lack of home staging services. They have experts on hand to handle special item moving and handling, such as antiques and pianos, and custom crating through trusted third parties. JK Moving’s partner McCollister’s Auto Logistics completes vehicle transportation with custom-designed enclosed trailers and GPS tracking. For valuation coverage, customers can opt for the carrier-based liability coverage at $0.60 per pound or full replacement valuation (the price depends on what you’re claiming).

JK Moving Services received a nine in reputation thanks to their A+ on the BBB and their presence on Trustpilot. Their Google rating, in particular, is high at 4.5 as of this writing. Here, customers talk about accurate binding estimates with no hidden fees, professional and experienced movers, and custom packing solutions for bulky, unique items. A majority of the reviews on Yelp are actually five-star, a rarity I’ve found among moving companies. Most will be one-star, in my experience. However, not all customers had a standout experience with JK Moving. One-star reviews highlighted damaged furniture, poor packing services, and outsourced jobs to other moving companies.

Most Common Praise for JK Moving Services

Customers who had a pleasant experience with JK Moving Services explain that both representatives and crews were professional and polite every step of the way. The movers were on time, packed carefully, and provided a stress-free experience from start to finish.

Most Common Criticism for JK Moving Services

Those leaving one-star reviews detail that movers packed boxes poorly, the provided boxes were insufficient and buckled, and they received damaged property upon delivery. One customer was upset that their items were left exposed to the elements due to the truck arriving half-full with another homeowner’s belongings.

JK Moving Services is on the lower side when it comes to transparency, at just a 6.3. The company received some points as the website does feature a quick quote tool and customer service hours, but they lost some points due to the lack of sample pricing and additional fees. They also don’t disclose their status as a broker/carrier, which means they could outsource the move to one of their partners. This knowledge could influence your decision to work with JK Moving. However, the organization did gain some extra points thanks to the available online or over-the-phone booking processes, binding estimates, and GPS tracking.

Best Overall Container Service

U-Pack

3.5

Our Rating

Limited Time Offer:
$25 Off With Code BLOG25

If you are willing to tackle your move yourself in Arkansas, U-Pack can be a great, cost-effective solution. They’re a self-service mover, so after they drop the container off at your home, you have three days to pack and load it. They’ll handle the transportation for you, delivering the container to your new location, and you’ll have three days to unpack and unload. With three different sizes of steel weatherproof containers and available trailers, they’re equipped with the solutions homeowners need whether they live in an apartment or a four-bedroom home.

However, this approach isn’t for everyone. If you don’t have the time to tackle the packing and loading or simply don’t want to, this isn’t going to be the best mover for your needs. Insurance can also be lacking as the brand doesn’t cover anything that was damaged by improper packing, even if their recommended partner performed the packing.

U-Pack is the lowest on this list due to their lack of basic services and customization options. However, they’re strong in reputation and transparency, so they’re still a solid choice if you only need the basics, are staying within the United States, want a cost-effective moving option, and are willing to tackle most of the heavy lifting yourself.

U-Pack is our choice for the best overall container service. They simply go above and beyond what other container companies offer, including steel weatherproof containers available in three sizes and trailers for rental. While they may not provide as much as the full-service companies on this list, U-Pack does have the ability to make your move simple and straightforward if you want to handle a majority of the move yourself and leave just the transport to the experts.

U-Pack isn’t the most transparent company on this list (that honor belongs to American Van Lines), but they’re one of the more transparent moving organizationsI’ve talked to. Their website highlights sample pricing, for example, not something many other brands showcase.

One downside of U-Pack is that it is a self-service option. This means you’re going to be loading, unloading, packing, and unpacking yourself on top of disassembling and reassembling furniture. You can opt to go through a third-party vendor to handle this labor for you. U-Pack even has a partner they recommend, but it’s going to cost extra.

U-Pack is also lacking in services. They don’t operate outside of the United States, can’t handle vehicle transport, and have limited solutions and insurance for antiques, pianos, and other specialty items. If you’re moving anything unique or fragile, they may not be the best solution for you.

For basic services, U-Pack earned a seven. While they’re equipped to handle local transport, long-distance moves, and interstate moves within all 50 states, they don’t perform international moves. The brand also lost some points because while they do offer packing, unpacking, loading, and unloading solutions, these are solely through a third-party vendor and not provided directly through U-Pack. It will cost you extra to opt for these services. U-Pack received points due to its storage services, which are more generous than other brands’ storage quotes. They’ll allow you to store your belongings for up to 120 days, compared to competitors’ 30 days.

Cost

Like Safeway Moving, moving quotes through U-Pack are based on space rather than weight. As a result, U-Pack is able to give you estimates based not only on your initial moving inventory but also on how much each additional foot of space will cost you (or save you). For my quote, the representative estimated I would need 14 ft of space in one of their 28-ft trailers. Then they told me it would be $97 more for every additional foot. On the other hand, if I used less space than expected, I would receive $97 off for every unused foot. The representative was unable to give me a quote for their partner’s full-service solutions.

For a two-bedroom home move between Mobile, AL, and Dallas, TX, I received the following quote:

  • 14ft of space: $2,166

Editor’s Note: The cost data provided in this article is based on Today’s Homeowner’s standardized sample moving scenario from Mobile, AL, to Dallas, TX, for a single-family home, with a move date set eight weeks away. When speaking with U-Pack, they advised me to book as soon as possible, especially if moving between spring and summer. These are the busiest months for homeowners’ moves, and waiting to book could cause the price to skyrocket. I highly recommend booking as soon as you know you are moving. Since U-Pack doesn’t require a deposit and allows you to cancel up to the business day before you receive the container at your home, you could save some big bucks by making an early decision. The brand doesn’t offer discounts to AAA or AARP members.

U-Pack comes in the lowest in customization, just five out of 10. They don’t offer junk removal, car shipping, custom crating, or home staging, nor do they have solutions for piano, special items, and antique moving. Additionally, their options for furniture assembly and disassembly are limited. U-Pack does sell packing materials, however, and offers valuation coverage. However, the only two insurance policies available are carrier negligence liability coverage and catastrophic liability coverage. These don’t cover any damages due to improper packaging, even if the third-party vendor recommended by U-Pack completed the packing.

Although U-Pack has a 4.33 and A+ on the BBB, their Trustpilot score is considered “poor” by the trusted review site at just 2.6 as of this writing. This landed them at an eight in reputation. U-Pack’s offices in Little Rock, AR, however, have great reviews on both Google (4.3) and Yelp (4.1) as of this writing. Customers stated that the moving company was reliable, communicative, and easy to work with. However, one-star reviews on Trustpilot explain that communication with the brand was lacking and items arrived damaged. U-Pack is responsive to both positive and negative reviews on the BBB and Trustpilot but not on Google or Yelp.

Most Common Praise for U-Pack

Customers who had positive experiences with U-Pack’s Little Rock, AR, location explain that they regularly use the brand for their moves, pricing was fair, and customer representatives were extremely helpful. One customer even said that they were able to get a lower price through the company by explaining a competitor offered the job for slightly less, saving them $400.

Most Common Criticism for U-Pack

A common criticism among negative reviews for U-Pack cites broken items upon delivery and miscommunication issues. One customer stated that all of their items were damaged upon repair after an unreported accident by the company’s driver and was offered no recourse.

U-Pack comes in very high in transparency at an 8 out of 10. The website is highly informative about U-Pack’s various services in Arkansas, with sample pricing, a quick quote feature, and a tool that lets you know how many representatives are available to take your call at any given time. Containers also come with GPS tracking options, and the company is clear about its status as a carrier. This means if you hire U-Pack, they’re not going to outsource the transportation of your property to another company. The moving brand did lose some points, however, because they don’t have clearly listed additional fees on their website.

What to Look for in a Reputable Moving Company in Arkansas

All reputable moving companies that operate in the United States must be registered with the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and have a USDOT number. Moving companies must also register with the Arkansas Intrastate Authority to operate in Arkansas and transport household goods.

Prospective customers should also look beyond the required registrations and check companies’ insurance coverage, reviews, and contracts. Some reputable moving companies may not accept debit or credit cards, but they shouldn’t say “cash only.” If they do, this could be a sign of a scam.

How To Avoid Moving Scams in Arkansas

Moving scams can occur whether you’re moving locally, interstate, or internationally. Knowing the warning signs can help you avoid them. A common scam is holding your property for ransom. Unless you pay the fee, the moving company states they cannot deliver your items. This is actually illegal, and if you ever run into this situation, you should report the company to the U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General. One family moving from Minnesota to Hot Springs, AR, was asked for $12,000 after their items were already loaded onto two trucks. They were only able to retrieve their belongings after working with law enforcement.

Common signs that a company may scam you include:

  • Cash is the only accepted form of payment.
    • Some reputable moving companies don’t accept debit or credit cards, but they will accept other forms besides cash, including money transfers and money orders. If the company only accepts cash, this could be a sign they’re not legitimate.
  • They require a large down payment or full payment up-front.
    • A no-show scam is common across the country and in Arkansas. Reputable companies won’t ask for more than 50% down on your move.
  • They aren’t registered in the state, or they don’t have a USDOT number.
    • All legitimate moving companies will be registered with the FMCSA and have a USDOT number. They should also have appropriate state licenses.
  • They’re dodging questions.
    • Legitimate moving companies will be happy to answer any questions and address concerns you may have. If communication is difficult or you’re not getting a written contract, you could be talking with a fraudulent company.
