My Review of Moving APT

While hiring an intermediary can be confusing, moving brokers can give you access to resources you wouldn’t have otherwise, including a database of thousands of companies worldwide. At first, I was suspicious of working with third parties hired by Moving APT, but its 24/7 customer service and price-matching policy softened my stance. Its customer service alone gives it an edge over most other brokers, and it helps to have someone on the line if any issues arise.

Moving APT works with reputable FMCSA-registered companies, and though there can be miscommunication between carriers while using a broker, its partners are worth their salt. Despite the risks, its range of services and available discounts make it a worthy opponent for any top moving competitor.

What I Liked and Didn’t Like

Click below to see what we like and don’t like about Moving APT’s moving options, services, availability, and more.

What I Like

One benefit I like about working with moving brokers is that they offer the sum of all their partners’ services, meaning that you have access to just about every moving service a local or national carrier would offer. These options include local, long-distance, international, full-service packing and packing materials, auto shipping, commercial moving, military, and more. While most of these are standard services, I found that its combined variety makes Moving APT’s service lineup impressive compared to most individual companies’ services. It’s rare to find one company that does it all.

What I Don’t Like

What I don’t like about working with a broker is that not every carrier in your area will offer all the services the broker advertises. Even though Moving APT may offer custom crating services to the general public, there may not be any carriers that provide that service near you. This discrepancy can lead to mismatched expectations for third-party movers.

What I Like

One of the additional services I like about moving brokers is that they can provide auto transport services — not given for all moving companies. But for a broker as large as Moving APT, getting your car from point A to point B is no problem. It’s rare to find services like auto transport, crating, and full packing services locally, but I was surprised at how many partners they have that can accommodate these needs. Even for services that go above and beyond the norm, Moving APT still provides plenty of resources to help you make the most informed moving decision.

What I Don’t Like

One thing I don’t like about Moving APT is its lack of technology. Moving APT offers shipment tracking as an additional service, but customers must call a representative to get a report of where their belongings are during a cross-country move. Making that call may seem like a small qualm, but it’s stressful to have no control over where your shipment is while you wait to move into your new home, and this is one area the company could improve. If Moving APT wanted to match competitors, it could create an online link or mobile app to provide real-time updates on your shipment.

What I Like

I love that Moving APT is available in 50 states and has more than 2,500 partner carriers nationwide. It also has wide international availability with a presence in 180 countries. This means that no matter where you’re moving from or where you’re moving to in the United States, Moving APT has connections to movers that cover your area. While some carriers and brokers also cover all 50 states, few cover as many international countries as Moving APT.

What I Don’t Like

Although Moving APT has carriers in every state, you can’t get every service in each state. Some local third-party movers might not provide some extra services, so advertising full national coverage may mislead you.

What I Like

Moving APT does a great job of communicating compared to other larger competitors. The company provides 24/7 customer support, a feat even for a company with its resources. Judging by most customer reviews, Moving APT stays updated on the moving process and keeps customers informed on their move even after booking third-party movers. At least for its part, Moving APT seems heavily invested in keeping the customer in the loop at all times.

What I Don’t Like

I’m not a fan that communication with Moving ATP’s third-party customer representatives is sometimes a challenge. Despite any convenience Moving ATP’s 24/7 customer service delivers, there’s always a risk of miscommunication with a broker, especially when it comes to differing quotes between third-party carriers. While Moving APT’s customer service may be friendly and informative, there’s no guarantee that the third-party customer representatives will be easy to reach.

What I Like

I think Moving APT’s decades of experience and extensive list of partners have made it one of the most reputable brokers in the business. Even though the individual carriers in Moving APT’s network sometimes have mixed reviews, most customers seem pleased with Moving APT’s services. Although other brokers may have more services, no one has a larger network than Moving APT.

What I Don’t Like

Moving brokerages have a poor reputation for the reasons stated previously, so they’re prone to negative reviews. They also don’t have to assume responsibility for damages or loss since they use third-party movers, so they can get off the hook if the move goes badly. I think Moving APT’s reputation lacks the sense of commitment that most local movers have, partially because its business model is inherently a hands-off approach.

Video Overview of Moving APT

Moving APT has plenty of helpful resources on its site and on its YouTube channel. If you want to learn more about the company or the independent partners they represent, this video should shed light on how they do business.

What Services Does Moving APT Offer?

Moving APT offers the following moving services:

  • Contents coverage plan
  • Custom crating
  • Fragile-only packing
  • Furniture dis/reassembly
  • Loading
  • Packing services
  • Packing supplies
  • Specialty moving (pianos, antiques, etc.)
  • Storage
  • Unloading
  • Unpacking
  • Vehicle shipping

Although this list isn’t much different from other top competitors, it is a lengthy collection of services. Other companies may have similar options, but none have as many carriers as Moving APT. Its custom crating and specialty moving services for pianos and antiques impressed me. These services aren’t unusual for companies to offer, but they’re not very common either. Even if these services aren’t available in every location, they still give customers plenty of options.

How Much Does Moving APT Cost?

Moving APT lists its average moving costs on its cost calculator page, but the following is an example of what some common services would cost on average for both a local move and a long-distance move.

ServiceAverage Local CostAverage National Cost
4-bedroom move$1,400 – $5,100$5,500 – $7,900
Moving container$450 – $900$1,100 – $4,950
Moving truck rental$150 – $570$750 – $4,150
2-bedroom move$750 – $1,900$2,100 – $6,900

While its rates may not stand out as exceedingly low, Moving APT has more affordable prices than many of its top competitors. Its affordability stems from the company’s flexibility with utilizing different carriers for a more reasonable rate and its price match guarantee policy.

How Can You Save Money with Moving APT?

Moving APT customers have many ways to save money. Moving APT provides more discounts than most competitors, making working with third-party carriers tricky. If you’re interested in receiving the following deals for the best prices, be sure to solidify it with your customer representative:

  • Discounts for getting an online estimate: When you finish entering your information into the online moving cost calculator, Moving APT offers a 15% discount for continuing the booking process and receiving a more precise quote.
  • Early reservation discounts: If you book your move early enough, Moving APT may get you a discounted rate. You’ll also have more flexibility when picking a moving date.
  • Military discounts: This discount applies to active-duty military, but Moving APT doesn’t disclose their discount rates on their website.
  • Senior citizen discounts: Depending on your age, you could qualify for a senior citizen discount when moving to a retirement community. There isn’t much information about this online, so ask a customer representative for more details.
  • Short-distance move discounts: Local moves are usually more affordable than long-distance moves, but you could get an even lower rate than usual for extremely short-distance moves.
  • Special discount codes: Use code APT23 for 20% off. These discount codes are likely to change periodically, but they can be a quick way to save some serious cash.

How Do You Schedule a Move with Moving APT?

To schedule a move with Moving APT, 800-360-0037 to speak with a customer representative. If you prefer getting a moving quote in just a few steps, Moving APT’s online cost calculator makes getting an estimate surprisingly easy.

FAQs About Moving APT

What Are the Cons of Moving Companies?

The main cons of moving companies are their prices and sometimes poor reliability. While reputable companies are often great at providing high-quality services, some affordable movers may cut corners: bad customer service in the forms of missing or damaged items and sketchy move crews. Likewise, hiring movers can be expensive. For that reason, many people prefer to move themselves by purchasing a rental truck.

How Do I Know if My Moving Company Is Reputable?

It can be hard to tell if a company is reliable just from its website. Check out customer reviews and evaluations from Better Business Bureau (BBB) and other third-party sites. Online reviews can give you a clearer picture of how a company operates. If you find mostly positive reviews, that’s good.

What Is the Best Day to Hire Movers?

While there’s no specific day of the week that’s inherently cheaper than the others, most companies offer affordable weekday rates because of the availability. People usually prefer to move on weekends, so companies may provide you a better rate if you’re flexible with your time and willing to schedule for a weekday move.

Methodology: How We Rank The Best Moving Companies

At Today’s Homeowner, we strive to bring you the most transparent, accurate information for your home improvement projects. Our moving company ratings emphasize what matters most to you — reputable, affordable companies able to tackle a wide range of packing and moving tasks.

Our ratings are based on publicly available information about each company, secret shopping online and over the phone, customer-review analysis, and interviews with former and current professional movers.

A company can earn a maximum of 100 points across four categories converted to a five-star scale. We researched and analyzed dozens of full- and self-service moving companies and developed the following formula:

  • Transparency (30 Points): We awarded top points to companies that supplied quotes quickly and provided easy-to-read moving contracts. We used the availability of sample pricing and quick quote features, GPS tracking, and clear customer service hours to determine this metric. Points were also awarded for up-front communication regarding policies, licensing, insurance, and the clear listing of added fees.
  • Basic Service Options (20 Points): While this may seem like a given for most movers, a strong basic service profile is not guaranteed when you book your move. Movers that offer local, long-distance, and international moving, while providing packing and loading with their basic service packages rate highly here.
  • Customization Options (30 Points): Aside from basic services, a comprehensive list of added services indicates a mover’s quality. Assembly and disassembly, valuation coverage, piano moving, car shipping, and similar add-ons indicate a mover that puts customer service first.
  • Reputation (20 Points): We assessed each mover’s Better Business Bureau (BBB) profile. We weighed BBB ratings and the company’s complaint response rate to calculate this metric.

We monitor company data on an ongoing basis to keep rankings and information up to date.
