Many homeowners feel apprehensive about moving because of how time-consuming it is. Between packing everything you own to unpacking and rearranging furniture in a new home, it’s a lot of work and stress. It can deter some people from moving. However, for those who are dreading packing and unpacking, there are plenty of moving companies that provide a full-service move. Going with one of the best moving companies for full service can help take a load off your shoulders.

Full-service move solutions usually include all packing materials, packing, furniture wrapping, labeling, loading, transport, and unloading. Companies sometimes offer unpacking services, but in my experience, it usually comes with an additional fee. When calling different moving companies, I inquired about their full-service moving solutions and how much it would be to have them pack a two-bedroom home. In addition, I researched each company’s reviews, online information and overall services to get a well-rounded look at my selections for full-service moving companies.

If you’re considering taking advantage of full-service solutions, I recommend getting all inclusions in writing. Every company is different in what it offers, so understanding what you should get for your money is crucial. I did some of the legwork for you and outlined my top choices for best moving companies for full service below.

Top 5 Moving Companies for Full Service

International Van Lines: Best Full-Service Mover
Highlights
  • My go-to choice for a full-service moving company is International Van Lines. The established mover can handle local, interstate, long-distance and international moves while offering most of the services customers need from a full-service mover. Another option I recommend is Moving APT, a broker offering every service we look for in a moving company. It has a vast network of movers, a must for a broker that takes care of even the most niche jobs.
  • Every moving company has different services in its full-service menu. Many only include packing and materials but not unpacking, which can have an additional fee. Some may offer a full-service move or fragile-only packing. I recommend asking for exactly what companies include in their full-service move menus and how they handle insurance before you sign a contract.
  • Full-service moving solutions can be expensive, but they also save you time and effort. I highly recommend reading reviews before selecting a brand so you won’t pick a company that has a history of poor packing and breaking property. You should ask how a mover determines its full-service quote. Some use an hourly rate, while others base the price on the number of boxes they pack.

My Expert Recommendation

For full-service moves, I recommend International Van Lines, our choice as the best full-service mover. It has strong reviews, offers most solutions that customers desire for a full-service move, and it has extensive experience in international moves. It also has a majority of basic services that customers need and add-on services that customers may desire. In many states, IVL operates as a carrier. When you hire the company, IVL (and not some partner) shows up at your door. IVL only outsources work in four states (Washington, Utah, Oregon and Montana),

I also recommend Moving APT as a full-service mover. It is the only company on our list that received a rating of 10 in basic services and 10 in customization, based on our criteria. It also services many countries (180+).

Customers can also customize their packing services. If you want to pack most of your items but leave the fragile items to the experts, Moving APT can handle that. But if you don’t want to pack anything, the company can do it for you. Moving APT’s quote process is also simple, and you can be off the phone in just a few minutes with a quote in hand.

Today’s Homeowner Tips
For full-service moves, I recommend International Van Lines, our choice as the best full-service mover. It has strong reviews, offers most solutions that customers desire for a full-service move, and it has extensive experience in international moves.

Full-Service Moving Companies I Didn’t Include

I didn’t include North American Van Lines or Allied Van Lines on the list because neither provides pricing information on their website or over the phone, even for self-service. They offer full-service moving, packing, unpacking and other related services, but to get a quote from either company, you must schedule a virtual or in-home walkthrough.

Another company I didn’t include on the list is Mayflower Moving. Although it tackles full-service moves, it doesn’t have customer reviews that inspire. Mayflower hasn’t claimed its Trustpilot profile, and it’s not on Google or Yelp. The only place to find any information is on the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and there aren’t many comments there anyway.

In addition, getting a quote from Mayflower was not easy. It could not provide me with a quote when I asked for an estimate for a move from Alaska, even though the company operates in Alaska. When I requested an estimate from Alabama to Texas, neither of the two company representatives could give me a price for full-service packing without a virtual survey or in-home assessment.

Our Reviews of the Best Moving Companies for Full-Service

Best Full-Service Mover

International Van Lines

4.5

Our Rating

Limited Time Offer:
Get 10% Off Your Next Move

International Van Lines has just about any service a homeowner could need when it’s time to move. As our choice for best full-service mover, the quote I received for a move included what homeowners need when it comes to service packing for only $0.01. The company has a webpage dedicated to packing services, explaining what the company provides, benefits and downsides of the service and a breakdown of packing options, such as IVL’s specialty packing services.

IVL’s other services that can make moving a breeze include storage services, custom crating, car shipping, piano moving and antique moving. With all of these solutions, IVL is a one-stop shop for moving services, and I recommend looking into the company if you need assistance packing your belongings.

I reached out to IVL several times during my secret shopping experience. Unfortunately,  getting assistance was frustrating. For my initial call about a move out of New York, I contacted the company four times to get a callback. Although I was promised an immediately returned call each  time, I never received one..

For another quote,  I received almost no information.  Finally, I tried the company’s chat feature. Even getting answers from this representative was problematic.

Instead of walking away with any information, IVL directed me to its packing services webpage and the brand’s quick-quote tool. This response from a company often praised for its customer service was confusing and disappointing.

International Van Lines is our choice for best full-service mover, coming in at 8.7 overall, based on our criteria. The moving company offers a wealth of services the average homeowner could need in a move, from packing and loading to custom crating and car shipping. The brand’s website also breaks down what you should look for in a mover, even if you don’t decide to hire IVL.

IVL often solves problems for full-service moving. The quote I received had full-service packing included for just a penny — $0.01 — and the email explained what it included in the price:

  • Disassembly and reassembly of basic furniture
  • Loading and unloading
  • Blankets and protective pads for furniture
  • Basic liability
  • Full-service packing
  • 30 days of storage

It also spelled out that a full-packing move included boxes, materials and services — and that specialty boxes and wrapping materials, such as mattress covers and TV crates, cost extra. However, my quote didn’t include unpacking. That came with an additional fee, charged at an hourly rate.

Where IVL fell short for me is customer service. Almost every time I tried to contact this mover, it was difficult to get answers. My initial calls went unanswered, my messages were never returned and the chat function on IVL’s website was slow and unhelpful.

While requesting a quote for a move from New York to North Carolina, I finally reached one company representative by phone, and that person was helpful. However, out of the seven times I reached out to IVL, this was the only time I received any assistance.

International Van Lines has all the basic services when it comes to moving. The company can assist with local, interstate and international moves to over 150 countries. However, the brand is a broker/carrier and sometimes outsources jobs to one of its partner companies, especially in Washington, Utah, Oregon and Montana.

But IVL is our choice for full-service moves, which means it can do all your packing for you. Its crew will bring all of the supplies and carefully pack every item. If you need storage services, IVL will place your boxes in secure containers and store upholstered furniture on specially designed racks with stretch wrap. Quotes include 30% of storage, but you can get longer-term storage if needed.

My quote from International Van Lines included full-service packing for only $0.01. This price could change for your move, but my quote included disassembly and reassembly of basic furniture, loading and unloading, blankets and protective pads for furniture, basic liability, full-service packing, and 30 days of storage. Full-service move quotes only include packing from IVL, not unpacking. Other extra services you could pay for include bulky-item packing, debris removal, additional packing for specialty items, such as TVs and antiques, piano handling and additional blankets for furniture wrapping.

For a move from Maybrook, New York, to Carrboro, North Carolina, a distance of 573 miles, the company quoted me:

  • Full-service option with packing: $4,000.52
  • Bulky item: $150
  • Unpacking service: $700 ($175/hour with a minimum of four hours)
  • Piano handling: $150 to 350

Editor’s Note: The cost data provided in this article is based on Today’s Homeowner’s standardized sample moving scenario from Maybrook, NY, to Carrboro, NC, for a single-family home, with a move date set eight weeks away. Please be aware that these estimates may vary depending on factors, such as the required additional services and market fluctuations. The cost data presented was accurate at the time of writing.

Today’s Homeowner Tips
Many companies don’t include unpacking services in their full-service moving solutions. It comes with an additional fee. When getting quotes for a full-service move, we recommend going in with a detailed inventory, getting a home tour, and asking what exactly companies include in their quote so that you can plan.

Many moving companies give customers the option of tacking full service onto their initial quotes. IVL, however, included it in the initial price, which can be a great way to save money if you want to avoid the stress, time and labor of unpacking your property. My quote also offered an available discount rate through IVL’s website, so completing the quick quote feature could help you save some money. In addition, IVL has a 15% discount to seniors.

For customization, IVL earned a 9 out of 10, only losing a point because of its lack of home staging. For those looking to this brand for full packing, however, IVL has customizable solutions to fit unique needs. Assembly and disassembly of basic furniture are included in the quote, but the company’s crews can handle more complex furniture for an extra fee.

IVL’s website says it has trained specialists who can help homeowners select high-quality boxes to protect their possessions, even if they want to pack themselves. IVL also can handle pianos, car shipping, antique moving, custom crating, and junk removal.

I received a quote that included “Basic Valuation Protection” at $0.60 per pound per article and noted that the company also offers additional protection. IVL says its insurance claims process can take up to two months.

Although the Better Business Bureau (BBB) does not accredit International Van Lines, the mover has a BBB rating of A as of this writing. IVL also claimed its profile on Trustpilot, where it has a 4.3 rating. We gave IVL 10 for reputation.

Some customers say the mover rapped their  furniture well, their items arrived with no damage and their moving experience was “stress-free and straightforward.” On Yelp, however, many IVL reviews have 1-star, with past clients saying they experienced major delays in delivery, that the company wasn’t upfront about operating as a broker and that moving crews created damage.

Most Common Praise for International Van Lines

Customers who gave high review grades for IVL explained that they had positive experiences from start to finish. IVL packed and transported their Items carefully, including specialty items that required crating, such as grand pianos. Many also stated that IVL packed efficiently, and crews hit the road quickly.

Most Common Criticism for International Van Lines

One common complaint among 1-star reviews for International Van Lines was long delays or wait times for delivery. Some customers noted that IVL has a 21-day delivery window and that they were without their items for three weeks to a month. One customer on Yelp explained that their “items were actually lost for three months, and when delivered, everything was broken.”

IVL, when evaluated according to our criteria, earned a 7.7 out of 10 for transparency. The full-service moving company earned points for its pricing tools, including sample pricing, quick quote feature, binding estimates, and online and over-the-phone bookings. However, it lost points because it doesn’t display additional fees on its website. We also withheld points for not having GPS tracking, which can be a useful tool if you want to track your items during your move. On its blog, IVL does say it is a broker/carrier, with brokers available in case a truck breaks down or there is a service area the company cannot cover.

American Van Lines

4.0

Our Rating

Limited Time Offer:

One of the highlights of American Van Lines is its website. It goes into fine detail about what services include, including full-service packing. You will know what to expect if you work with this brand from start to finish. Even JK Moving Services’ website, which has a wealth of information, doesn’t go into this much detail. Before you even call for a quote, you’ll understand what you’re getting for your cash.

Another shining point of AVL is its reviews. The company has an A+ and a 4.07 on BBB, a 4.3 on Trustpilot, and a 4.2 on Google as of this writing. Customers repeatedly mention the professionalism of everyone who represents AVL, on-time pickups and deliveries and white-glove treatment of fragile items.

I was hesitant to recommend American Van Lines as a full-service mover because it offers the least out of all the companies on this list when it comes to basic services and customization options. It only operates in the continental United States, so homeowners looking for service in Alaska, Hawaii and beyond U.S. borders can’t hire AVL. In addition, the company doesn’t offer car shipping, junk removal or home staging. Car shipping and junk removal are two services all of the others on this list have.

If you’re wondering what’s included in your full-service move and their packing services, American Van Lines goes into extensive detail about what you can expect, how its crews handle property in the midst of the move and what you need to do before they arrive at your home without even having to call. The company spells everything out on its website, including tips for packing yourself, estimating how many boxes you’ll need (many homeowners underestimate) and explaining several other services.

But that’s not all that makes American Van Lines a top choice for me. Reviews across trusted review sites are strong, too. Many customers talked about wonderful pickup and delivery experiences, well-packed belongings and strong customer service. However, I want to mention that while the company does reply to 5-star reviews on Google with thank-you messages, it rarely, if ever, responds to 1-star reviews.

Out of the five best full-service moving companies on this list, AVL has a nice customization score, tied with IMRG for the lowest basic services score. It just doesn’t offer the variety of services that other brands have. Crews don’t handle international moves, moves outside the lower 48 states, and it doesn’t offer car shipping, junk removal or home staging. Overall, we gave the company an 8 out of 10.

American Van Lines earned a 9 out of 10 for basic services. While it handles a majority of moving services and can help with local, long-distance and interstate moves, the company doesn’t operate outside of the United States and doesn’t service Alaska and Hawaii.

However, for customers staying within the continental U.S., this brand has an extensive webpage that describes full-service moving services. Crews will select the right packing materials for your property, advise you on how many boxes you need, label boxes and assist with unpacking. It advises customers to arrange possessions for packing to save time and reduce damages, though. Instructions include removing items from walls, unplugging electronics and taking apart computers. And, even if you’re moving with another company, you can still hire AVL to tackle the packing. This option works well if you’re working with a brand that doesn’t offer a full-service move.

Cost

According to their website, AVL bases the cost of their packing service on the number of boxes they pack for you. So, it’s important to make an accurate inventory of what you want them to box up, or you could find the cost higher than you expected. AVL also offers unpacking, but it costs an additional fee. The quotes I received from AVL included disassembly and reassembly of standard furniture, loading and unloading, furniture padding and wrapping, valuation coverage, packing materials, and full-service packing. I also asked for a self-service option so you could see the difference in costs.

For a two-bedroom home, estimated at 2,898 pounds, moving between Mobile, Alabama, and Dallas, Texas, the company quoted me:

  • Self-service option: $3,513.99
  • Full-service option: $4,459.59

Editor’s Note: The cost data provided in this article is based on Today’s Homeowner’s standardized sample moving scenario from Mobile, AL, to Dallas, TX, for a single-family home, with a move date set 8 weeks away. Please be aware that these estimates may vary depending on factors such the required additional services and market fluctuations. The cost data presented was accurate at the time of writing.

Available Discounts

American Van Lines posts deals between specific cities right on their website, such as discounts on moves to Miami, FL, to Los Angeles, CA, and Washington D.C. to Seattle, WA, as of this writing. American also offers a senior-discount plan and seasonal discounts. When I called, I was offered a Springtime Promotion, though the emailed quote doesn’t make it clear just how much I saved.

American Van Lines’ lowest score is customization, at just a 7. Assembly and disassembly of standard furniture are included in the quote, even the self-service one, but the company does not offer car shipping, junk removal, or home staging, which costs them some points. For valuation coverage, AVL’s website does a great job of breaking down the two options: Full Value Protection (FVP) and Released Value Protection (RVP). FVP is an additional fee and covers a minimum amount of $6 per pound, but customers are welcome to request even more coverage and opt for deductibles. RVL is free and has no deductibles but only covers $0.60 per pound per item. AVL’s site, however, says that FVP is the default liability coverage when you move, but that was not the case in my quote. The mover only offered me RVP. This full-service moving company also sells packing materials and offers piano moving, antique moving, and custom crating.

American Van Lines has high reviews on the BBB (4.07 and an A+), Trustpilot (4.3), and Google (4.2) as of this writing. Many customers talked about consistent, professional communication from beginning to end, especially during the move. They also noted the experienced, helpful crews and their attention to detail during packing, loading, unloading and unpacking. However, its page on Yelp has more 1-star reviews than 5-star reviews, with customers stating they received their items broken and later had issues with the claims department.

Most Common Praise for American Van Lines

Customers leaving high reviews for AVL discussed unparalleled experiences compared to other moving companies, efficient moving crews, strong communication before, during, and after moves, and handy packing services and solutions. Transparency in pricing was also a much-discussed topic, with customers saying their final cost was close to the original quote they received.

Most Common Criticism for American Van Lines

Most reviews on BBB, Trustpilot, and Google are positive, but that’s not the case on Yelp. There, customers described their different experiences with AVL. They stated they received broken items upon delivery and that some possessions were accidentally left behind during the move (including big furniture pieces that would be hard to miss). They also reported three-week delays in delivery.

AVL earned a 7.7, according to the criteria we look for in transparency, tying with IVL and IMRG. The company’s website is informative and highlights sample pricing, has a quick quote feature and states its status as a carrier. When you hire AVL, AVL employees show up to pack and move your property. AVL also makes it easy to book online or over the phone. And after you book, you can opt for a GPS tracking option, though this selection isn’t available everywhere in the United States.

Where AVL falls short is its lack of clearly listed fees. Customers have to call to get specific quotes for full-service moving, packing services, packing materials, piano moving, and more.

Best Cost Estimation Tools

Interstate Moving & Relocation Group

4.2

Our Rating

Limited Time Offer:
No current offers available.

Interstate Moving & Relocation Group (IMRG) operates as a broker, which means it partners customers with one of their moving agents. As a result, it offers an array of moving and packing services, including full-service moves. When I spoke to the representative over the phone, they walked me through the entire process of what I needed to pack. Going room by room, they were able to identify some items that I previously hadn’t thought of when secret shopping but seemed obvious that everyone has in their home. With this process and the Zoom consultations the brand offers, it can be easier to get a more accurate quote over the phone with IMRG.

IMRG’s website is user-friendly and gives valuable information about various partners, services and what goes into determining a moving quote. White competitor IVL’s website is informational, its pages are often too long, which can make it difficult to find what you’re looking for. IMRG’s pages, on the other hand, are concise and get to the point quickly, so you know exactly what to expect with moving services, packing, and more.

Reviews are hard to find for Interstate Moving & Relocation Group. The brand doesn’t have a profile on Trustpilot or Yelp, and reviews on the BBB and Google show no consensus. Because IMRG operates as a broker, this is always a gamble. The company could match you with a mover that has a poor reputation or get lucky and get one of the best moving companies in the world. For those working with IMRG, I recommend trying to find out which moving company you will be working with ahead of time and checking out their reviews before putting down a deposit.

A downside of IMRG’s website is the moving-cost calculator. Although the page breaks down exactly what IMRG includes in a price quote, the cost calculator only gives you vast ranges, and many of the estimates will be the same for different combinations. For example, I tried New York to Florida, New York to North Carolina, New York to Washington, and Florida to Washington for a two-bedroom home and a three-bedroom home, the tool  always the same price range: $3,900 to $7,000.

According to our criteria, IMRG earned a score of 8.4 out of 10. The company operates as a broker, matching customers to agencies that offer full-service moving solutions. Although it can be a gamble working with a broker (you don’t know what company you’re going to be partnered with before you call), this arrangement allows the brand to offer a wider array of moving services to customers. Getting a quote from IMRG was straightforward, and follow-up emails outlined what I could expect working with the company, including what it included in my quote and any additional fees.

IMRG also has a helpful website that doesn’t overwhelm you. Prospective customers can get a good idea of what to expect from the brand and partners before picking up the phone. They provide information that can be reassuring before a big move, including packing tips, what to look for in a moving company and how they calculate quotes.

Where IMRG falls short for me is their lack of reviews and moving cost calculator. Although the brand has over 1,000 reviews on its Google Business Profile, with a 3.8 as of this writing, they aren’t BBB-accredited, haven’t claimed a Trustpilot profile and aren’t on Yelp. Reviews are important to customers.

The moving cost calculator is not all that helpful. It gives the same few online quotes no matter what information you put in. For example, I tried New York to Florida, New York to North Carolina, New York to Washington, and Florida to Washington for a two-bedroom home and a three-bedroom home. However, the company always gave me the same quote range of $3,900 to $7,000. The only time I got a different result was when I asked for a quote for a four-bedroom home, which returned an estimate of “$8,500+.”

For basic services, IMRG earned a 9, losing a point because it doesn’t handle international moves. The company and its partners operate in the continental 48 states, handling local, long-distance and interstate moves. As a broker, IMRG partners with companies that can handle packing, unpacking, loading, unloading, and full-service moves. The crews will bring all the packing materials necessary to the home and can tackle packing and loading bulky, fragile, and delicate items. It also includes 30 days of storage in the quote.

The quote I received in my email from IMRG broke down exactly what I could expect to pay when working with the company. It included the basic estimate price, binding estimate fees, fuel surcharge, packing materials and Basic Valuation Protection services. The quote also detailed what the company included in the quote, such as disassembly and reassembly of standard furniture, loading and unloading, 30 days of free storage, packing materials and packing. It said I could incur added costs for fragile packing, crating services and bulky-item packing.

I secret-shopped a quote for a move from Maybrook, NY, to Carrboro, NC, from IMRG and received the following estimates:

  • Self-packing option: $4,500
  • Self-packing option with discount: $3,296
  • Full-packing option: $5,150
  • Full-packing option with discount: $3,946
  • Mattress and box spring packing: $28
  • TV box: $100

Editor’s Note: The cost data provided in this article is based on Today’s Homeowner’s standardized sample moving scenario from Maybrook, NY, to Carrboro, NC, for a single-family home, with a move date set eight weeks away. Please be aware that these estimates may vary depending on factors such as the required additional services and market fluctuations. The cost data presented was accurate at the time of writing.

Available Discounts

As our choice for best discounts, IMRG offered me discounts without being asked. My quote included a tariff discount of 59.01% and an availability discount with manager approval for $1,265 off the final price. In addition, the company’s website shows that it will take $500 off my next move simply by calling. Although, as of this writing, the discount I received was more than double that.

As a full-service moving broker, IMRG has an extensive network of moving companies to call upon. As a result, it has many customization options for customers. According to what we look for in an organization, IMRG rated a 9 for customization. The only thing they don’t offer is home staging, but that’s rare among moving companies.

IMRG has plenty of services to help you with your full-service move, including assembly/disassembly (this comes included in quotes for standard furniture, piano moving, car shipping, special item moving, custom crating and junk removal. You can also buy packing materials, so you don’t need to worry about hunting those down. IMRG included Basic Valuation Protection in my quote ($0.60 per pound per article).

Where IMRG is hard to nail down is in reputation. The brand has an abundance of Google reviews (over 1,000 as of this writing), but reviews elsewhere are scarce. The reason could be because of its status as a broker, but other moving companies that operate as brokers have Yelp and Trustpilot profiles. For a BBB rating and the lack of a claimed Trustpilot score, IMRG lost reputation points and landed at 7.8. Customers leaving positive reviews, though, often highlight the brand’s customer service, while negative ones spoke of higher-than-expected costs on a moving day. However, IMRG is extremely responsive to both negative and positive reviews on their Google Business Profile.

Most Common Praise for Interstate Moving and Relocation Group

Customers often speak about IMRG’s good customer service. Even though he received broken items, poorly reassembled furniture and improperly labeled boxes, one customer left a positive Google review saying, “After discussion with the company and ending their relationship with this particular carrier, I have changed my rating.” Plenty of other clients of IMRG rate it 5 stars, citing responsive representatives and flawless move experiences.

Most Common Criticism for Interstate Moving and Relocation Group

A common criticism among IMRG reviews is the unexpected jump in pricing when moving day arrived. Even though the company offers a binding estimate, these 1-stars stated that there are unexpected fees and that cost estimates were wildly incorrect even with provided photos and measurements during the quoting process.

When it comes to transparency, IMRG earned a 7.7 based on our criteria. The website does list sample pricing but doesn’t clearly explain the additional fees a customer might incur when moving. When you’re looking for a moving company to handle everything for you in a full-service move, these fees could make or break the deal. However, since they’re a broker (and make this clear on their website), there are a lot of moving pieces, and additional fees can vary from partner to partner.

IMRG also received some points because it posts customer service hours for online booking, over-the-phone booking and binding estimates. And while the quick quote feature isn’t wholly reliable, they do have one that can be a starting point when determining just how much it would cost to move.

IMRG lost points because of a lack of GPS tracking tools. GPS tracking allows you to see where your items are at any given time, which can deliver peace of mind, so not having it can be stressful.

One of the best things when first speaking with Moving APT is the quoting experience. Many companies keep you on the line for 30 or 40 minutes or require you to go through a home or virtual walkthrough to get a ballpark quote. With Moving APT, however, I was on and off the phone in 10 minutes. When you’re calling a lot of businesses to get quotes, it gets exhausting, so this experience was immediately less stressful.

Moving APT is also a sound choice for full-service moves, thanks to the company’s abundance of services. They earned a 10 out of 10 in both basic services and customization, the only one on this list to do so. So, if you’re looking for a company to handle everything under the sun, they have you covered.

However, Moving APT is a broker. They partner with other moving companies, which can be confusing when it’s time to move. This fact is not disclosed readily on their website, so many customers aren’t quite sure who they will be working with on moving day. And, since every moving company is different, you could get the best in the area —or the worst.

Moving APT also falls short in transparency. It is lowest on this list, by quite a margin. They have little to no information about pricing on their website, don’t have clearly posted customer service hours and lack a GPS tracking option.

Moving APT has more than 2,500 moving partners and operates solely as a broker. This network of professional movers provides customers with a wealth of services unmatched by the other four on this list. They’re the only company out of the five to offer home staging, for example, and the only one to have a 10 in both basic services and customization based on our criteria. But this network can be a great option, too, if you need specialty services for moving antiques or car shipping for a vintage vehicle. For full-service moves, they really do offer the “full-service.”

Moving APT’s quote process is straightforward. A company representative walked me through an efficient moving checklist. While many other companies I’ve spoken to had the same checklist, it took them twice the time than it took Moving APT. And with some companies even requiring me to wait over 24 hours to receive a quote, it was nice to call, have a quick conversation, and walk away with an understanding of how much it would roughly cost me to move.

However, Moving APT, for all its available bells and whistles, is not nearly as transparent as it could be. For customers looking for pricing information before a call, you’re out of luck. The website also doesn’t have posted customer service hours or disclose the company’s status as a broker. In addition, if you’re looking for GPS tracking for that added peace of mind, they don’t offer it.

Moving APT offers all of the solutions a customer could be looking for in a full-service move, which earned them a 10 in basic services. The company and its partners, as local and long-distance movers, serve more than 180 countries around the world, more than any other business on this list. Moving APT offers customizable packing solutions to meet just about any need. If you want to pack up a few items yourself, you can leave the rest to the experienced crew or let movers handle all of it. Two examples of the moves that Moving APT has are  Standard Full-Service Move, which covers most of the basics you’d expect from a moving company and Platinum Full Packing Service Move.

Cost

In my quote from Moving APT, I received two options for services: Standard Full-Service Move and Platinum Full Packing Service Move. Standard included the basics, such as loading and unloading and disassembly and reassembly. Still, it included blanket-wrapping of furniture pieces, basic limited liability protection of $0.60 per pound per article, one month of free storage and furniture placement. It noted that bulky and heavy items may generate a special handling fee. Platinum services included all of the above, plus all packing materials, cardboard crating, fragile crating and packing service. Unpacking was not included in either plan and would incur an additional charge.

I want to note that Moving APT has one of the highest quotes for full-service packing that I’ve found but is clearer about what comes with their highest-tiered full-service packing option. For a move from Maybrook, NY, to Carrboro, NC, Moving APT quoted me:

  • Standard Full-Service Move: $2,700
  • Platinum Full Packing Service Move (without unpacking): $3,700
  • Platinum Full Packing Service Move with Full Value Protection: $4,522.64

Editor’s Note: The cost data provided in this article is based on Today’s Homeowner’s standardized sample moving scenario from Maybrook, NY, to Carrboro, NC, for a single-family home, with a move date set eight weeks away. Please be aware that these estimates may vary depending on factors such as the required additional services and market fluctuations. The cost data presented was accurate at the time of writing.

Available Discounts

My initial quote from Moving APT included two discounts: a 5% coupon off the basic estimate price (for $175.89 off) and fuel surcharge and a three-day pickup window flexibility coupon, which took $1,275.87 off the price. If you don’t have to move on one specific date, you can save a lot of money by opting for that second coupon. You can also get a 15% discount if you use their website’s moving cost calculator and enter your email and full name to receive a more precise quote.

Moving APT also earned a perfect 10 in customization by offering home staging as an add-on, the only moving company on this list to do so. In addition to being able to handle the full move for you, they sell packing materials from normal boxes to specialty containers for your most fragile items. The company includes assembly and disassembly in a standard quote, with options for specialty packing, antique moving, custom crating, and junk removal for additional fees. However, customers will have to call to get the cost estimates for these services. Basic limited liability protection of $0.60 per pound per article also comes with both standard and platinum moves. Still, customers can pick a bit more protection with the Full Value Protection plan with a $500 deductible.

Moving APT earned a 7.8 in reputation. When the company has reviews with the BBB, Google and Yelp, the company has not claimed a Trustpilot profile. The BBB review rating is also only at a B+ as of this writing, and they aren’t BBB-accredited. For many customers leaving 5-stars reviews on their trusted third-party sites, customer service is a highlight. They wrote of responsive and helpful representatives and crews. However, Moving APT operates as a broker, which means not every customer will have the same experience. Customers leaving 1-star reviews explained that many “additional fees” popped up on moving day and told of major delays in pickup and delivery. Moving APT is responsive to both positive and negative reviews on Google.

Most Common Praise for Moving APT

Customers giving APT 5 stars on the company’s review profiles detailed friendly staff and moving crews, regular updates about the move’s progress, and an overall stress-free and seamless moving process from beginning to end. Clients who needed the packing service explained that fragile items, specifically antiques, were handled with care.

Most Common Criticism for Moving APT

Moving APT is a broker, and not all customers had a standout experience with the moving company that Moving APT assigned to them. 1-star reviews explained that quotes were not accurate, with one customer on Yelp stating that their expenses for moving more than doubled. Some reviewers state, too, that once they signed the contract, customer service was “non-existent.”

Moving APT falls seriously short of transparency. The company has the lowest rating on this list, coming in at 4.3. The website has many tips for your move, but it lacks information. There is no sample pricing, examples of additional fees, disclosure of their status as a broker or posted customer service hours. Moving APT did receive some points for a quick-quote feature, which offers a discount if you give the company your information but doesn’t provide a breakdown of fees. For customers wanting to understand the costs behind a full-service move, additional expenses, in particular, are quite important. Also, some partners don’t have GPS tracking.

JK Moving Services

Our Rating

No current offers available.

Many moving companies’ websites lack details about services. Some may have a lot of information about moving tips, little does that explain what solutions the brand offers. JK Moving Services, however, provides valuable insight right off the bat. Not only does its site give tips for moving, but it also details various services. The email you receive goes further, with helpful PDFs and videos included.

JK Moving also has a mobile app that makes moving straightforward. Customers can download it to schedule services, conduct home reviews, log inventories, make payments, and more. I had already talked with an extremely helpful representative, so this app takes the standout customer service even further.

JK Moving Services is the second-lowest on our list for transparency. As detailed as their website is, the company does not outline sample pricing or additional fees associated with their services, nor do they disclose that they’re a broker as well as a carrier. GPS tracking is only available with some partners.

I also don’t like how long it can take to get a quote from JK Moving. A company rep could not give me one over the phone for an Alabama-to-Texas move,  and I had to wait until the next day to receive an estimate. Even then, the company noted that the next step would be submitting 30 to 60 videos of my home and property to get an accurate quote. The videos are for accuracy, but when you’re trying to get solid costs for a move from several different companies, it’s time-consuming.

If you’re looking for general information about local or long-distance moving and what a moving company can offer a customer, JK Moving Services is a fantastic place to start. Their website has page after page explaining their various services and what customers can expect when moving with the brand. And if their website isn’t helpful enough for you, there are even video and email resources. The representative I spoke to was helpful, sending emails that included a quote, a breakdown of the quote process, videos about storage and the move experience I could expect with JK Moving. There were even PDFs on what you can and can’t pack in a move. (You can’t pack hazardous items.)

If you want more, there’s a mobile app, too. JK Moving’s extensive app helps customers schedule their move, change services, submit videos for more accurate quotes, log inventory, make payments, and check in on their property in the midst of the move. From start to finish, JK Moving keeps customers informed.

JK Moving has just about every service a customer could need in basic services and customization, plus they have a high reputation. The only place they lost serious points was transparency, which brought the company’s score to 8.4 overall. As informative as the website is, the brand doesn’t actually list its status as a broker/carrier, sample pricing, or additional service fees. GPS tracking is also not available through all of their partners.

For customers in need of a full-service move, JK Moving Services offers everything as a local and long-distance mover, from storage to full packing solutions, which led us to give the company a 10 for basic services. There are two forms of packing services they offer. If you want them to handle all of the packing and supplies, there’s full-service packing. If you prefer to handle boxing clothes and books but are worried about fragile items such as antiques or dishes, there’s fragile-only and specialized item packing. In addition, JK Moving offers storage in their warehouses that come with 24/7 video surveillance, motion sensors, options for climate-controlled storage, and fire suppression systems.

JK Moving Services’ quote process does take a while, and you will likely not walk away with an accurate quote after one call, even if you have a detailed inventory and measurements. When I called for moves from Alabama to Texas and Alaska to Washington, it was about 24 hours before I received estimates from the representatives. I learned you will need to submit 30 to 60 videos of the items you want moved to get an official estimate. One representative let me know that for certain moves, such as the move out of Alaska, the full packing cost was negligible and came with door-to-door service, so it doesn’t make sense for you to pack yourself in these cases. However, this wasn’t the case when moving long-distance from Alabama to Texas, and full-service came with an additional cost.

JK Moving Services had the highest prices of all the companies I contacted. To move a two-bedroom home from Mobile, AL, to Dallas, TX, a distance of 588 miles, and with an estimated weight of 6,050 pounds, the company quoted me:

  • Self-service option: $7,522
  • Full-service option: $9,388

Editor’s Note: The cost data provided in this article is based on Today’s Homeowner’s standardized sample moving scenario from Mobile, AL, to Dallas, TX, for a single-family home, with a move date set eight weeks away. Please be aware that these estimates may vary depending on factors such as the required additional services and market fluctuations. The cost data presented was accurate at the time of writing.

One representative let me know that for certain moves, such as a move out of Alaska, it didn’t make financial sense to pack yourself because the full packing cost was negligible and came with door-to-door service. That wasn’t the case for anAlabama-to-Texas move, so ask about the difference in pricing of self-service vs full-service. You could save time and effort. JK Moving also offers as low as 0% interest when you finance your move and 2% off if you’re buying a home from Brookfield Residential.

Like most of the moving companies on this list, JK Moving Services does not home-stage but offers everything else as a customizable option, earning it a 9 out of 10 for this category. It explains many of its various services with detailed webpages, so customers choosing these optional services know what to expect beyond just the costs. The mover includes up to 20 free used boxes when you work with them. If you need additional supplies, they sell shrink wrap, packing tape, packing paper and boxes. The company also has valuation coverage available (60 cents per pound), which, for me, based on 6,050 lbs of items, came out to $252. Beyond the basic packing, JK Moving and third-party partners can handle special item boxing, antique moving and custom crating for bulky or heavy items.

Some moving companies will deny insurance claims if they did not pack the items and the property was damaged. Always get an insurance policy in writing and read it carefully. If you’re unsure what the insurance covers, ask. You may have the option to select better moving insurance through the company.

JK Moving Services has a standout reputation with the BBB (A+ and 4.45/5 ratings) and Google (4.5/5) as of this writing. The brand has been BBB-accredited since 1997. The only place the company lost points is with its Trustpilot score, which is in the middle of the road and only had one review. Customers highlighted professional crews who handled everything from packing and removing the packing materials after delivery, noting that belongings arrived undamaged and well organized. On the other hand, 1-star reviews talked about damaged and missing property.

Most Common Praise for JK Moving Services

A common compliment many reviewers discuss on trusted review sites for JK Moving Services is the stellar customer service from beginning to end. Whether it’s the crew or the representative, they called those working in the company professional, responsive, courteous and helpful. One customer was worried about restored jukeboxes but noted that movers wrapped them up perfectly in bubble wrapping, took care when carrying them onto the truck and unwrapped them in pristine condition at the final destination.

Most Common Criticism for JK Moving Services

However, this was not the experience for all customers of JK Moving Services. 1-star reviews stated that the company provided poor-quality boxes, loaded heavy items atop fragile boxes in the truck and lost several pieces of property. One Google reviewer said JK Moving hooked up a dryer, but it wasn’t installed properly and later caused a short.

JK Moving Services’s lowest score is transparency (6.3). Although the company’s website is chock full of details about what the company offers, it’s not forthcoming about its status as a carrier and a broker. This lack of clarity  means you could be surprised when another moving company shows up at your door, and, if you selected the full-service option, it would be a bit problematic because this unknown company is going to handle all of the packing of your belongings. In addition, the website doesn’t go into sample pricing or additional fees, and GPS tracking is not available everywhere that JK Moving services. However, the brand did get points for posted customer service hours, the ability to book online or over the phone, binding estimates and the quick quote feature.

What to Look for in a Reputable Company for Full-Service Moving

When looking for a reputable company for your full-service move, it’s important to look at licenses, insurance and registrations. Every reputable and legitimate moving company must register with the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and have a USDOT number. Further registration requirements depend on the states they’ll be operating in and the state lines they’ll cross in order to complete your move.

To ensure you’re getting a quality mover for your packing, furniture wrapping, unpacking, and other full-service solutions, you should:

  • Read reviews. You don’t want to select a company that has a history of packing and then breaking a majority of customers’ property. While accidents do happen, you should look for a mover that has a history of strong services and positive reviews.
  • Get, in writing, what is included in the full-service move. Every company offers slightly different services under their “full-service” package. Some may include unpacking, while others charge an additional fee. You should understand what companies include in their full-service quote and what’s expected of you ahead of time.
  • Read over insurance policies. Some insurance policies don’t cover items that the company didn’t pack. Others are only covered by the bare-bones insurance policies that the government requires. Read the ins and outs of your insurance options before you hire a full-service mover.

How To Avoid Moving Scams in Colorado

Common moving scams include holding your items hostage for more money, no-shows after taking your deposit, and mover fraud, where a company claims to represent another brand but, in truth, doesn’t. Checking a company’s registrations before you sign a contract will help you avoid scams. You should also request specifics regarding insurance. Don’t accept a simple “It’s covered.” as an answer. Fraudulent moving companies will often lie about coverage.  In addition, companies may say you have to register your new address with them to get mail, and that expense is not cheap. That statement is not true. Anyone can change their address through the USPS for free in person or for a small fee online.

To be aware of scams, you should:

  • Know the warning signs. Legitimate companies’ websites will have their address and details about their licenses and registration. These moving businesses usually won’t ask for large deposits (over 50%) or full payment in advance.
  • Get everything in writing. Your contract and insurance coverage should be clear before you sign anything. Contracts should include limits of liability, disclaimers, and pickup and delivery dates.
  • Keep an inventory list. Moving companies will keep an inventory list, but you should have one as well. Labels should be clearly marked, and taking photos of the contents can actually help you if you have to file a claim.
  • Ask questions. If you don’t understand what a term means, what your insurance policy covers, or what to expect during your full-service move, ask. A legitimate company will be more than happy to answer.

FAQs

How Much Does a Moving Company Cost for Full-Service?

The average cost of a moving company for a full-service move is $5,098.82. Many companies offer discounts, however, so it’s possible to negotiate a lower rate.

Do You Need a Moving Company for Full Service?

You don’t need a moving company for full service — this is something homeowners can tackle themselves (and some may prefer to). But if you want to save time and don’t mind additional fees, it can be a great resource to take advantage of.

Are Moving Companies for Full Service Worth It?

A moving company is worth it for full-service moves if you want to save time and effort in packing your belongings. However, it often costs extra, so homeowners may want to take a DIY approach and do the packing themselves rather than shell out the additional cash.
