Expert Advice on Improving Your Home
Home Flooring

Choosing the flooring that best suits your needs is important. Flooring is not only important for the structure of your home, but it also contributes to its overall look and feel. The flooring you choose depends on your taste, lifestyle, and budget.

The Basics of Flooring

There are different types of flooring, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. The most common floor coverings for the interior of your home include:

  • Carpet. Carpet is popular because it’s soft on your feet, soundproofs your home, and is easy to install.
  • Engineered wood. This type of flooring, which uses a thin layer of hardwood over a plywood substrate, looks like real wood but is less expensive. It is DIY-friendly and durable.
  • Hardwood. Made from real, solid wood planks, hardwood is known for its durability and versatility. Hardwood is often the most expensive flooring option.
  • Laminate. Many homeowners like laminate because it’s affordable and available in various colors and textures, including mimicking wood or tile.
  • Linoleum. DIY- and environmentally friendly, this flooring is affordable and easy to install.
  • Stone. Stone floors are made from natural stone, such as granite, marble, or sandstone. This type of flooring is expensive but is durable and bold.
  • Tile. Tile is popular for kitchens, utility rooms, bathrooms, and any area that comes in contact with water. The most common tile materials are porcelain and ceramic.
  • Vinyl. Vinyl is great for kitchens, bathrooms, or laundry rooms and is known for its water resistance and affordability.

Flooring installation may be DIY-friendly, but many homeowners have it professionally installed to ensure proper installation. Without a professional installer, there is a risk that the flooring will warp, peel or create gaps.

When you contact a flooring company, you can expect a contractor to come to your home, assess the area where you want new flooring installed, explore your options, and provide you with a free quote.
