LL Flooring Reviews

We analyzed more than 100 customer reviews on platforms like the Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot. Our search found that customer satisfaction varies drastically based on individual LL Flooring locations. That said, the majority of customer reviews for LL Flooring are positive.

Some locations have overwhelmingly positive reviews, with customers applauding the company’s customer service team, installation team, and product quality. However, others had scathing customer feedback, with numerous complaints regarding customer service, installation complications, and product failure.

We should also note that the company was involved in a class-action lawsuit alleging it knowingly imported Chinese-made laminate flooring preserved in formaldehyde. After the investigation, the company halted the sale of Chinese-made laminate flooring in the United States.

Continue reading below for our take on LL Flooring’s benefits, drawbacks, and notable services.

What Is Our Take on LL Flooring?

After hours of research and meticulous consideration, we think LL Flooring is a solid contender. Compared to its competitors, the company offers nearly unbeatable prices, even for wood flooring. Its professional installation option lets you save money with a DIY installation or go with a pro.

However, while the company excels in some areas, it falls short in others. For example, the company’s reviews vary drastically based on location, and it has a failing grade with the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

What Types of Flooring Does LL Flooring Offer?

LL offers a range of flooring options, which we describe in more detail below. Note that LL Flooring doesn’t offer any carpet options, so it falls short of competitors in this respect.

Bamboo flooring offers exceptional durability, hardness, and water resistance, allowing it to rival hardwoods at a lower cost. LL Flooring offers bamboo flooring in various colors, including grayish-brown, natural, and deep caramel browns.

Cork isn’t quite as widely available as some flooring types. LL Flooring offers several types of cork flooring, including natural cork, wood-like finishes, and solid colors.

LL Flooring offers both natural hardwood and engineered hardwood, with choices available in hickory, acacia, maple, oak, and several other solid hardwood floors. While expensive, this option is popular among homeowners seeking durable flooring.

Genuine hardwood can be refinished numerous times to restore its former glory, meaning it can last decades with proper care and maintenance. Generally, you can only refinish most engineered hardwood floors one to three times before replacing them.

Made from a blend of laminate, vinyl, and wood that is layered to offer the best features of each, hybrid resilient flooring is waterproof, dent-resistant, scratch-resistant, and PVC-free, making it eco-friendly and durable.

Laminate flooring is a staple among budget-friendly flooring picks. Most providers, including LL Flooring, offer at least a few laminate flooring options. Most options mimic wood and stone, allowing homeowners to incorporate beautiful, expensive-looking flooring at an affordable cost. Laminate flooring is also easy to install

Tile flooring is another staple in the industry, known for its durability and longevity. LL Flooring offers dozens of waterproof tile flooring options, including subway tile, ceramic tile, wood-like porcelain tile, and stone-like porcelain tile.

Like laminate, vinyl plank is a must-have in any well-rounded flooring provider’s offerings. Like most providers, LL Flooring has an extensive array of options, including luxury vinyl plank (LVP), with many wood-like designs available.

What Flooring Services Does LL Flooring Offer?

Like many flooring companies, LL Flooring offers services to ensure your experience goes smoothly, including the following:

  • Financing
  • Shipping and delivery options
  • Professional installation

Financing

LL Flooring’s primary financing option comes through the store’s credit card. With the card, you can finance purchases for 48 months at 6.99% interest (at the time of this writing) with fixed monthly payments.*

The company also sometimes offers additional time-limited no-money-down financing on purchases of varying amounts, as follows (effective from April 26 – June 30, 2023):

  • 6 months: Purchases up to $1,999.99 are eligible for six months of no money down. There is no interest on these payments if you pay in full within six months, but there are minimum monthly payments.
  • 12 months: Purchases between $2,000 and $3,999.99 are eligible for a 12-month payment window with no money down. Again, you won’t pay interest if you pay it off within 12 months, but there are minimum monthly payments.
  • 18 months: On purchases of over $4,000 with no money down, you won’t pay any interest if you pay off the total within 18 months. However, minimum monthly payments are required, so pay attention to these.

These time-limited payment options also come through the LL Flooring credit card. Once they’ve expired, you may find new/additional limited-time offers on LL Flooring’s website.

Shipping and Delivery

Since pickup isn’t always an option and flooring is heavy and awkward, LL Flooring offers a few options to receive your flooring.

You can have the flooring delivered directly to your home if you live within 75 miles of the shipping store and the product’s total weight is less than 10,000 pounds. You can choose from inside delivery, garage delivery, or curbside delivery. Shipping and delivery price ranges from $249 to $299.

  • In-store pickup: If you choose this option, your store will contact you when the delivery is ready. Once you get the notification, visit the store’s warehouse and park near the loading area to allow the store’s associates to load the product into your vehicle.
  • In-home delivery: The delivery team will carry the materials into your home, break down and remove shipping debris.
  • Garage delivery: The team will bring the flooring into your garage on pallets. This option is a solid choice for homeowners who don’t need to acclimate the product to their home’s temperature. It doesn’t include breaking down or removing shipping debris.
  • Curbside delivery: The team will leave your flooring on a driveway or walkway. When you’re ready, you can transport the product into your home or garage.

If your order weighs more than 10,000 pounds or you’re further than 75 miles away, you’ll have to hire an independent delivery service.

Professional Installation

LL Flooring offers professional installations at an additional cost, a relatively standard offering from flooring retailers. The company hires certified and experienced local flooring installation companies to complete your project. However, you work with LL Flooring to arrange the installation date with the independent contractor. LL Flooring only uses independent contractors that are licensed, bonded, and insured, along with meeting LL Flooring’s quality standards.

Homeowners can ensure they get the best results by choosing installation by the company’s flooring experts. Installation cost varies based on factors specific to the house.

  • Once you’ve committed, the product will be delivered, and a representative will work with you on acclimating it to your home environment before installation (generally takes a few days up to a few weeks).
  • Once you’ve committed, the product will be delivered and a representative will work with you on acclimating it to your home environment prior to installation (this generally takes a few days up to a few weeks).
  • You’ll set up your installation date based on the time needed to acclimate your new flooring and be informed about how to prepare your home for the installation. You’ll always be able to contact LL Flooring’s Customer Care Center with any questions or concerns.

How Does LL Flooring’s Flooring Compare to Its Competitors?

LL Flooring is a strong contender against its competitors, especially in terms of pricing. The brand has an extensive array of options, with the lowest prices starting at just $0.18 per square foot. It has a solid range of coverage across 47 states.

However, it falls short when considering its reputation, as it scores badly on the Better Business Bureau website. Its F score is poor compared to other brands like The Home Depot and Floor Coverings International, which have impressive A+ scores with the BBB.

The table below briefly summarizes how LL Flooring squares up to its competition.

So, Is LL Flooring Worth It For Your Home?

When searching for new flooring to complete your home, it’s essential to consider your options. While LL Flooring might be a perfect fit for some homeowners, we recommend comparing a few top picks to determine the best choice for your home.

That said, if you’re looking for an inexpensive option with plenty of flooring options to elevate your home, LL Flooring might be the perfect fit for you. The company has dozens of options at varying prices, so there’s no shortage of choices.

On the other hand, if you want a flooring company that is an expert on a specific type of flooring, especially carpet, there may be better choices than LL Flooring for you. If you live in Alaska, Hawaii, or Wyoming or don’t have an LL Flooring store within 75 miles of your home, a local flooring contractor or a big box retailer (such as The Home Depot) would be a better option.

FAQs About LL Flooring

Does LL Flooring still have formaldehyde?

Lumber Liquidators, LL Flooring’s prior iteration, had a lawsuit filed against alleging illegal amounts of formaldehyde in certain types of its flooring. However, the brand stopped selling and installing that product in 2015, so options on the market today are within legal limits.

What is the warranty on LL Flooring?

LL Flooring offers a one-year residential installation warranty if you choose to use their installation pros. Manufacturer’s warranties vary based on the brand and type of flooring you choose.

Why is LL Flooring cheaper?

Flooring from LL Flooring is drastically cheaper than that of many of its competitors, with prices as low as $0.18 per square foot. The company can do this because it works with manufacturers and suppliers directly. This means it can offer lower prices to its customers since there is no middleman.

Methodology: How We Rank Flooring Companies

At Today’s Homeowner, we strive to bring you the most transparent, accurate information for your home improvement and maintenance projects. Our flooring company reviews focus on what's important to you as a homeowner. That's why we look for companies that offer next-day installation, comprehensive labor guarantees, and various flooring options.

A flooring company can earn a total of 100 points in five categories. This score is then converted into a five-star scale. We use publicly available information, such as free quotes and customer reviews, to create our rating scales.

  • Availability (10 points): We evaluate the availability of each flooring company, ranking them by the number of locations and the number of states in which they have a presence. The companies with the greatest availability receive the highest score in this category.
  • Company Reputation (15 points): A company's reputation is a good indicator of its product. We use customer reviews and ratings from reputable organizations, such as the Better Business Bureau (BBB), to determine this rating. Flooring companies that have received a higher BBB rating and are more proactive in responding to complaints receive higher scores in this category.
  • Customer Service Features (30 points): When you decide to renovate, repair, or replace your floors, you want the best service possible. We evaluate flooring companies based on whether or not they offer in-home shopping, floor visualization tools, and next-day installation. If a company offers a labor guarantee, they receive a higher rating.
  • Flooring Types Offered (15 points): Flooring companies that offer a wide range of flooring products are at the top of this category. We review each company and note if they offer installation and repair of laminate, vinyl, tile, carpet, and hardwood (check out our hardwood floor price analysis).
  • Services Offered (30 points): When you hire a flooring company to replace your floors, you want the job done from start to finish. We evaluate each flooring company's services and see if they offer removal of old floors, leveling of the subfloor, installation of new floors and free, no-obligation quotes.

We monitor company data on an ongoing basis to keep rankings and information up to date.
