My Review of Lawn Love

Total Score: 53/100

Lawnlove.com hit the playing field in 2014 in San Diego as an online portal to help connect homeowners with lawn care companies in their local area. So, Lawn Love differs from other providers like TruGreen or Lawnbright because it doesn’t provide the services itself. Lawn Love exists only to get you a quote from a local company for your requested services.

The upside is that you’ll get a large pool of qualified candidates, and you should have no problem finding someone to give you the services you need.

The downside is that the services can be limited based on location, and you can never be too sure which subcontractor will come out to your property.

Nonetheless, compared to services like TruGreen and Lawnbright, you get a much deeper array of lawn cleanup and mowing services from Lawn Love than you do with most other companies, so it’s worth looking into.

Here is how Lawn Love ranks against other lawn care professionals:

What I Like and Don’t Like About Lawn Love

Score: 20/36

What I Like

The main thing to understand about Lawn Love’s “plan options” is that it doesn’t really have plans at all. Instead, its team connects you with a service provider offering exactly what you want.

Homeowners can choose the plan that best aligns with their specific requirements, whether it’s basic maintenance or comprehensive care. The availability of online booking and scheduling adds convenience, allowing you to manage your lawn care needs easily.

What I Don’t Like

The main downside of its plans is cost. Since most of the services offered are “à la carte,” you might find the overall cost quickly adding up as you tack on different services.

This is especially true in rural areas where there aren’t a lot of service providers. You might have to find multiple lawn care companies. One for mowing and one for landscaping. The cost of hiring two different companies could be much higher than going with a company like TruGreen.

Score: 3/11

What I Like

While 3/11 might not sound impressive, I’m more than satisfied with the array of services offered by Lawn Love.

Since it’s only connecting you with the service provider, this opens the door to many companies within its database.

Besides typical lawn mowing and maintenance, Lawn Love offers:

  • Fertilization
  • Aeration
  • Weed control
  • Lawn seeding
  • Yard cleanup
  • Leaf removal
  • Gutter cleaning
  • Snow removal
What I Don’t Like

The main issue I have is the uncertainty of all of this. Lawn Love is a lot like Angi or Thumbtack, so you never know who is coming out to your property to provide these lawn care services. While Lawn Love might have a great reputation in your area, the lawn care company that is coming out might not.

Score: 6/8

What I Like

Lawn Love lawn care is available in 41 states, with many states having a wide assortment of locations.

What I Don’t Like

While Lawn Love isn’t available in all 50 states, some states don’t have nearly as many locations as others. It’s important to understand that while the company says it provides “gutter cleaning,” for example, there’s no guarantee that you’ll find that service from a local lawn care company in your area.

You’re limited to the companies that have signed up for and approved to be part of the Lawn Love database.

Score: 13/25

What I Like

I appreciate the speed and simplicity of getting a quote with Lawn Love. All you need to do is fill out the online form, and the site automatically connects you with a lawn care company in your area for the services you’re looking for.

What I Don’t Like

There’s no mobile app and no online chat feature. Another issue I have is the fact that you need to provide your contact information at the first point of contact. I would like to be able to learn a little more about who it’s connecting me with and at least have a chance to pick the services I want before plastering my phone number across the internet.

Immediately upon entering my information, I was bombarded with phone calls. This might not be bad for some people, but it would be much easier to fill out an online form with only the services I’m looking for, so I didn’t have to take so many calls.

Score: 11/20

What I Like

Trustworthiness for me comes down to online reviews and years in business. Lawn Love is new to the scene, but it has solid reviews, and many people have no problem with the lawn providers they connect with.

In fact, I even looked at Trustpilot, which is usually inundated with complaints, but Lawn Love has an exceptional 4.8 out of 5.0-star rating on the site.

I like to contribute this to the fact that Lawn Love connects you with small, local providers who likely care much more about their reputation than large national service providers. The smaller local guys are working to grow their business and will go the extra mile for that positive review.

What I Don’t Like

Lawn Love hasn’t been in business very long and is taking a unique approach. Instead of providing the services itself, it’s subcontracting out and likely just up-charging you a little bit.

So, you’d probably pay less if you just went directly to the company, but I can’t say this for sure. In my experience, many lawn care experts are willing to lower their prices a little if a company can bring them a certain number of leads each month. That is likely the case with Lawn Love.

Either way, it’s hard to trust a company that doesn’t know who is providing the services and its standards. But the positive reviews speak for themselves.

What Plans and Services Does Lawn Love Offer?

Lawn Love doesn’t necessarily have “plans,” so I’ll outline its services and approximate costs.

Lawn Mowing

Starting at $29 per month

Most popular lawn care companies don’t offer mowing services, so this was a nice surprise. Lawn Love will connect you with mowing services in your local area based on the size of your lawn and its condition.

I think the best thing about using Lawn Love is the fact that you can get multiple quotes from companies, so you have prices to compare to get the best bang for your buck.

Gardening Services

Starting at $35 per month

If you love having a beautiful garden but don’t have a green thumb, Lawn Love can help connect you with a lawn care company that provides weeding, edging, trimming, pruning, and more.

Fertilization and Aeration

Starting at $80 per month

Fertilization involves the application of nutrients to the soil, promoting healthy growth, lush greenery, and improved resistance to diseases and pests.

Aeration, on the other hand, involves creating small holes in the soil to allow air, water, and nutrients to penetrate deep into the grassroots. This process enhances soil compaction, encourages root development, and improves lawn health.

Both of these services are useful for a lush and green lawn. I’ve read a ton of Lawn Love reviews explaining how the company does an amazing job connecting homeowners with companies to provide these services.

Weed Control

Starting at $75 per month

Lawn Love provides expert weed control services performed by experienced professionals. They employ effective techniques and high-quality herbicides to target and eliminate various weeds, ensuring a weed-free lawn.

The company also offers pre-emergent care, so you’ll want to connect with a lawn care company in your local area year-round to prevent weeds from popping up.

Yard Cleanup

Starting at $75 per month

Yard cleanup includes overgrown cleanup, yard waste removal, leaf removal, and gutter cleaning. Lawn Love will connect you with a company that provides all these services so you can bundle them together and save money.

How Much Does Lawn Love Cost?

In the previous sections, I provided a rough idea of how much you can expect to pay for Lawn Love. Let’s take a look at some specific numbers from its site and other customer reviews:

ServiceMonthly Cost
Bi-Weekly Mowing$30–50
Bi-Weekly Fertilization$35–50
Gardening Services$35–50
Aeration$80–120
Yard Cleanup$60–85
Gutter Cleaning$75–150

*Lawn Love also charges a “long grass fee” that can add 50%-–100% on top of your original mowing price.

What Factors Can Save You Money with Lawn Love?

If you’re thinking these costs are a little more than you can bear, there are a few things you can do to try and either lower the costs or take some lawn maintenance into your own hands:

Bundling services — Try your best to find one single company that provides a large assortment of services. By bundling these together, you’ll save money compared to hiring three companies to provide one service each.

Don’t let it get out of control — Like I mentioned above, Lawn Love will charge extra if your grass is over 10–12 inches, so try not to let the situation get out of hand because it will cost you more in the long run.

Compare prices — My favorite thing about Lawn Love is that you can get many prices in one place without contacting multiple providers. Compare and save.

What Products and Ingredients Does Lawn Love Use?

While it’s unclear what specific products and ingredients it uses because Lawn Love subcontracts the work, according to its weed control page, organic and pet-safe options are available if that’s something you’re concerned about.

Which States is Lawn Love Available In?

How Do Others Feel About Lawn Love?

I’ve scoured the internet and also spoken with quite a few locals in my area. The overall opinion of Lawn Love is very positive.

Positive Reviews of Lawn Love

The main difference between Lawn Love and other national companies is that small local service providers care for the customers. This generally results in a more positive experience.

“Even though I asked for the grass behind the fence to be cut (which is my fault for not clarifying), Jeramy took care of it, and even suggested using round up for that area so we don’t have to worry about it. Thank you so much!”

Faisal, Trustpilot

“Anthony from Lawn Love was very professional and since it was the first time taking care of my yard, he took the time to introduce himself and explain the work to be done. The yard looked great and was completely mowed, edged and cleaned off in a short period of time.”

Mike, Trustpilot

Negative Reviews of Lawn Love

Most of the negative reviews from Lawn Love revolve around the “three mow minimum,” which requires you to get at least three cuts from the company before choosing someone else. There are also issues with delays and miscommunication, which is very common in the lawn care business.

“Well, apparently the guy that was supposed to come never showed up. They said is behind and in turn, we have to get someone else to come out. I’m not sure why this company thinks it’s okay to keep a customer under a 3-mow minimum contract when their mowers can’t do the same thing.”

Alisa, Trustpilot

Methodology: How We Rank Lawn Care Companies

At Today’s Homeowner, we strive to bring you the most accurate information for your home improvement projects. Our lawn company ratings emphasize what matters most to you — a wide range of useful products with reliable service and impressive results.

Our ratings are based on publicly available information about each company, secret shopping via phone and internet, customer-review analysis, and discussions with lawn and landscaping specialists.

Each company can earn up to 100 points divided across five categories. We assess those point scores, then convert them to a five-star scale to determine rankings. We researched popular lawn care companies across the country to develop the following category breakdown:

  • Plan Options (36 points): Lawn care companies earn the most points in this category if they offer a wide range of plans to fit various homeowner needs. Companies providing services like fertilization, aeration, seeding, and tree/shrub care will earn more points than providers with base-level plans.
  • Additional Offerings (11 points): We score this category by evaluating additional offerings that enhance a company’s overall service selection. Companies that provide pest control services, organic lawn care products, and à la carte options score the highest in this category.
  • Customer Service (25 points): We considered how far each company goes to ensure customers have convenient, intuitive access to products and services with contact forms, online chat features, and additional learning resources.
  • State Availability (8 points): We factored each company’s state availability into its overall score. Companies with more locations and wider service areas score higher than those with limited availability.
  • Trustworthiness (20 points): We score each company’s trustworthiness based on its Better Business Bureau accreditation and score, number of years in business, and Google Star ratings.

We monitor company data on an ongoing basis to keep rankings and information up to date.
