To-Do #2: Have Air Conditioner Serviced
Now that the days are warming up, it’s time to have your air conditioning system inspected so it will keep you cool through the hot months ahead. Although AC repair costs can be annoying to pay for, it’s well worth it to keep your system running well during the hot months. Set up a visit with a licensed HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) professional to inspect and service the air conditioner.
Professional AC servicing usually includes:
- Changing the air conditioner air filter.
- Cleaning and inspecting the blower and motor.
- Checking the coolant level.
- Testing safety controls to help prevent fires.
- Testing switches and thermostats.
- Checking the unit and ductwork for leaks.
You can also do your own DIY inspection of your ductwork, paying close attention in attics areas where the ducts can get stepped on and bent. Seal ductwork and cracks using special metallic duct tape and cover with a layer of duct mastic.
If your HVAC system doesn’t already have a programmable thermostat, take this opportunity to install one to save money on your cooling bills this summer.
Programmable thermostats adjust your home’s temperature automatically when you’re away or sleeping, which can save a lot on cooling costs. Your HVAC professional can install one, or you can do it yourself.
