Homeowners use their garage door every day, so it is important that it operates smoothly. To make sure of that, you need to lubricate the door with the proper lubricant and avoid common mistakes.

Choosing the Right Garage Door Lubricant

Because garage doors are used so often, it is important to lubricate them at least once a year.

When it comes to garage door lubricants, don’t use silicone or grease because that will ultimately make the situation worse. For proper lubrication, use Lithium Grease.

Additionally, it is important not to lubricate stationary parts, such as the track. If you lubricate the stationary parts, that increases the possibility of the door slipping.

Yearly lubrication will allow your garage door to run smoothly. (3 Echoes Content Studio)

Garage door lubrication is so essential, but it can be messy — keep reading for the Simple Solution!

The Simple Solution

Use a piece of cardboard to prevent the garage door lubricant from spreading. When lubricating the door, use the cardboard as a barrier, placing it behind the area you are working on.

The most important place to lubricate is the roller and the area where the roller passes through the fixture. Another place is the torsion spring.

Since lubrication can be messy, use cardboard to limit the mess. (©Jupiterimages via Canva.com)

Spray the length of the entire torsion spring using cardboard to prevent any lubricant from getting on the wall or its surroundings. Add the garage door lubricant to the silver piece or carrier that slides along the rail, but only lubricate the top.

Lubricating all these moving parts on a regular basis has many positive effects, such as improved smoothness and reduced noise during garage door operation.
