Kitchen renovation often involves removing the existing kitchen countertops and replacing them with new ones. This can be a difficult in older homes, since plastic laminate countertops were often constructed on site and nailed to the walls and cabinets.
The countertops in this kitchen took a good bit of persuading to pry them loose. Once they had been removed, new plastic laminate countertops were screwed in place from underneath, and a 22” x 33” hole cut for the sink using a jigsaw.
The backsplash was glued to the wall and countertop with special braces to hold it in place while the adhesive set. Finally, a new stainless steel double sink and faucet was installed to complete the job. Removing and replacing the countertops was completed in a single day at a cost of $500.

New kitchen fitted, but splashback ( laminate) is reaching top of wall unit at one area. Looks odd. Can this be cut back without all the wall units be removed?
Many Thanks Phil
the backsplash on my cabinet is a roll on laminate , I guess it is one piece with the counter top. Im removing counter top so assuming it is glued to wall below cabinets. can I cut at base by countertop or can I just pull loose. it is loose around edges at one end. figured I would try pulling loose if not cut where top & back slash are one. at least 30 years old. also what is best to loosen valve cutoffs. finally got cold water to cutoff but the hot valve handle will only move so far. not sure if stuck or valve too tight. Thank you for any reply of advice & hints & tips. also on cutting new laminate as I will be taking on this project myself , hopefully with help of grandson to lift!
