How to Fix a Shower Curtain Rod

Sometimes it’s just as easy to repair something as it is to replace it.

A spring-loaded shower rod that has fallen down is a great example. These types of shower rods work under tension, and if the mechanism inside has snapped, there will be no tension to hold it.

To fix the problem, simply set the rod to the correct length, mark it with tape and then drill two holes through both pieces of the rod.

Place stainless steel screws in the holes so that they won’t rust.
This will lock the rod into position, but once it’s in place there won’t be any reason to adjust it.

Instead of $10-$15 for a new rod, you pay for the screws.

    • I just bought a long round tension rod at Goodwill for $2.99 and knew when I bought the rod that it had no spring in it to tighten it, so when I got home, I called Tru Value Hardware store and asked if they carry the replacement springs to place inside of the rod and the man said “Yes. they have many drawers of different sized springs and he also told me that he can help me find the right size of spring for my rod – to bring the rod in and they can “fix me up”. Home Depot should have these springs as well, and any hardware store carries these springs. I am using the tension rod to hang sheer lace curtains – to go inside of my drapes. I almost purchased a new curtain rod from Amazon, but figured that since the rod is used for the inside patio door that no one would see the rod anyway. The rod looks brand new and is a beautiful white color. $2.99 is a good price – plus the cost of a new spring.

  1. I have a shower riser rail and the part that holds up the shower head seems to have loosened.i have tried screwing it in tighter but it hasn’t helped so I have to tie the shower head up with string to keep it in place.is there anything I can do with it apart from replacing the whole shower rail?
