Simple Solutions:
Leaf-Collecting Trash Can — A very common and easy way to collect leaves is to rake them into a large trash can that’s lined with a plastic bag. The problem comes when you have to remove the leaf-filled bag from the can. As you begin to pull out the bag, a vacuum is formed, making it nearly impossible to remove the bag. To prevent that all you need to do is drill several 5/8-in.-dia. holes around the sides and bottom of the trashcan. Now, when you pull on the bag, the holes will allow air into the can to break the vacuum and the bag will slide right out.
Makeshift Miter Saw Table — Next time you’re using a miter saw to cut long pieces of wood moldings or decking, make a convenient saw table using an extension ladder. Lay the ladder across two sawhorses, then set the miter saw in the middle of the ladder. Now you’ve got plenty of room to the left and right of the saw for cutting long lengths of lumber. And, if necessary, cut a vertical 2×4 to fit beneath the ladder to stiffen up the ladder and eliminate any bouncing.
