Converting a garage into a living space is a popular project these days. But whether you do that, or just want to give this space some style, it’s important to give some thought about how you want the space laid out.
First, consider the flooring. Your kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom all have a certain kind of flooring that matches your style and each room’s needs. The garage will be no different.
Here are some options:
1. Stain
An unfinished concrete floor is dusty and absorbs spills and stains. The least expensive option is applying a translucent or solid latex stain. These stains seal the concrete and give it a more consistent look. Staining typically costs between 2 and 4 dollars per square foot.
2. Paint
Concrete paint is another option. However, paint simply isn’t durable enough to hold up to hot tires or chemicals for long. A gallon of concrete paint will cost you around $33.

3. Epoxy Coatings
While more expensive than stains and paint, two-part epoxy coatings are also more durable. Most epoxy kits include decorative chips to embed in the wet finish, adding character and hiding dirt. At $45 per gallon, you can cover up to 100 square feet with an epoxy coating.
4. Heavy-Duty Tiles
The easiest, but one of the more expensive, options is rubber or vinyl tiles. They don’t require any adhesive; instead, simply interlock them like a puzzle.
Most of them are heavy-duty and hard to gouge, making them perfect for gyms, workshops, or even for truck trailer floor protection. 5. Carpet
Installing carpet in the garage is a great way to prevent dirt from being tracked in the house. It’s inexpensive and only needs a small bit of carpet tape to hold down.
You also can use glue, but this will make removing the carpet difficult. Most homeowners will pay around $3 to $11 a square foot for carpet installation.
