Danny Lipford: Hi, I’m Danny Lipford, and I’ve got some great spring maintenance tips for you. Now that the weather’s getting a little better, you can get outside and start closely looking around the outside of your home.

Now, if you see any peeling paint, that’s one of the first things you want to address is to sand, prime, and paint that. Also, some of the maintenance items, like cleaning your gutters, making sure your gutters and downspouts are clear and working properly.

Now, if you do find a little water damage outside—it’s not unusual to find a little bit of rot—then you can address it with using a material that won’t rot again. Now, I’m at my daughter’s house, and this is her garage and her first house. And she a couple of years ago installed a really good quality vinyl siding from Royal Building Products.

And they also have a great cellular PVC trim material of all kinds. That if you have some of that rotten wood on the outside of your home, don’t replace it with something that’s going to rot again, replace it with cellular PVC.

It works like wood, it’s lightweight, it paints, it’s very easy to deal with. And termites don’t like it, and it won’t rot again—great way to enhance the look of your house and have a very low maintenance approach to your home.

Now, spring cleaning is something that makes a lot of people a little uncomfortable. And you think about going out and getting a pressure washer and pressure washing everything, you don’t have to. You don’t have to even have to pick up a scrub brush if you do what my daughter, Chelsea, did.

Now, first of all you look at this side of her garage, it’s dirty, mold, mildew, algae. Look at the front of the garage, there’s nothing, it’s clean as can be. It got that way because she used Wet & Forget just a few months ago to spray down the front of the garage.

And this one gallon will make six gallons when you mix it with water. And you simply spray it on the exterior surface, any exterior surface that you have on your home—your deck, your siding, your eaves, your fence, your driveway—and then be patient.

Wait a few months and it will work with the sun and the rain and the wind to completely make it nice and clean. Then all you have to do is spray it about once a year in order to keep it nice and clean. Biodegradable, no bleach in it, so it’s very safe to use around any plants and certainly around any pets or animals.

Now, when you talk about maintenance of a house, you’ve got to talk about maintenance of a yard, and Chelsea’s yard looks great because she mows it on a regular basis and never cuts more than a third of the blade at one time. And she’s pretty proud of her new Lawn-Boy mower.

Chelsea Lipford: Yeah, the design of the mower allows you to adjust the blade and the deck from one side, so you can make sure you’re only cutting what you need to. This model also has a bag that is so easy to use, you take it off you can put it back on with ease.

And it also has rear wheel drive, which allows you to just kind of walk behind the mower—it doesn’t require a whole lot of effort to push it. But my favorite function is the electric start. All you have to do is turn the key, and it’s cranked, and you’re good to go.

Danny Lipford: And that’s such a great feature, and it kind of takes away all the excuses that you may have not to regularly mow your grass.
