I recently painted a home’s siding and I learned a few tricks I wanted to share with you.

First, if you paint the house with just a brush, it would take you virtually forever.

I use the brush for just applying paint to the butt edge, the bottom edge, of each piece of siding. And for the broad surfaces, I use a 6-inch foam roller, a two-gallon bucket of paint and a rolling screen. The screen fits right into the bucket and it gives you a place to roll off the excess paint.

Now, when you go to apply the paint you’ll see the six-inch roller is just the right width; it applies the paint beautifully, nice and smooth to the siding.

But the really great thing about using foam instead of a brush is, first, you leave streaks behind and often the bristles will pull free and get stuck in your paint.

So if you use a foam roller, run it on the screen to get off the excess paint to get a perfect professional job every time.
