Advantages of Rechargeable Cordless Lawn Mowers

You can’t beat the convenience of cordless tools. But there’s another advantage to battery power when it comes to thinking green, especially when it comes to yard work. You might be surprised to learn that an hour of mowing your yard with a gas-powered lawn mower causes as much pollution as driving 250 miles in a car!

But there are alternatives. The old hand-powered mowers are still available, but my vote goes to rechargeable, cordless models. These mowers operate using a sealed lead acid battery, and usually have enough power to mow up to a half-acre lawn on one charge. There are no emissions, no noise, and no expensive gasoline to buy.

I have been a long-time advocate of cordless tools. I mean, just look around my shop! You just can’t beat the convenience of going cordless. But there’s another advantage to battery power when it comes to thinking green, especially when it comes to yard work. Believe it or not, with a conventional gas-powered lawn mower, an hour of mowing pollutes the air as much as a 250 mile drive. But there are alternatives. The old hand-powered models are still available, but my vote goes to the cordless models. These mowers operate using a sealed lead acid battery, and usually have enough power to mow up to a 1/2-acre lawn on one charge. Plus, unlike an electric model, you don’t have to hassle with a cord the whole time. And think about it…no emissions, no noise, no expensive gasoline to buy…and saving money is my favorite green of all.

  1. I’ve long wanted a cordless lawn mower, but when shopping recently, a salesman (an old timer who really seems to know about numerous brands, types, et al) told me that I would be wiser to buy an electric mower with a cord because to replace the battery later on would be almost as expensive or as much as buying a new mower. Do you agree?

  2. I have used cordless battery tools, as well as mowers since 2004 and would NEVER think of going back. The convenience and efficiency can not be beat for most suburban lawns. For us, batteries tend to last between three and four years. Note: For those who choose to mow only when knee deep? Not the best choice however… better to buy a goat!
