Setting a wooden post in concrete makes it more stable and secure, but as the wood shrinks over time, it can cause the post to become loose. To prevent this from happening, drive several large, rust resistant nails in all four sides of the post at different angles.
The nails will further tie the post to the concrete, and hold it firmly in place even if the wood shrinks. Watch this video to find out more.

Building a garage. My husband thinks the hole should be just barely bigger than the post and then fill with concrete. My son thinks you should have several inches of concrete around the post. Who’s right? And I’ll leave your name out of it if hubby is wrong!
Hi, Chris,
Danny says, “The fence will be much stronger if you have at least 2-3 inches of concrete surrounding each post. Thanks for your question!”
