Laying a patio out of brick pavers makes a good DIY project, but problems can arise when it comes to locking the pavers into place. Traditionally sand was used to fill cracks and hold the pavers, but heavy rain can easily wash the sand out from between the pavers. Cement based sand was created to combat this problem, but it can become brittle and crack over time.
To solve this problem, Quikrete developed PowerLoc Jointing Sand. Since it’s a polymer based material, PowerLoc stays put and flexes rather than cracking.
Simply spread PowerLoc sand into cracks, mist the sand lightly with water, and you’re done. Watch this video to find out more.

I have a question about resanding a concrete paver walkway. Last year we had a professional install the paver walkway with polymeric sand and with the harsh New England winter we just had, the paver joints now have cracks. Can we spread new polymeric sand to fill the cracks and mist with water as directed?
Can I use this product between my flagstone patio which has 1″ to 3″ spaces between the stones?
Is there other colors of Polymeric sand.
My paved brick patio and paths around the house had become dirty and the spaces between the bricks became infested with weeds/ grass. I have removed the weeds and have power hosed the surface of the bricks to restore their original colour. In the process the clay/ filling between the bricks has been removed to varying degrees. If I use powerloc to fill the gaps between the bricks , does it matter that the gaps between the bricks range from 100% empty to 5 % empty. It is my intention to use a resin type sealer to seal the surface of the bricks and the filled gaps between them for future weed control.
I live in vero each fl and have pavers in my lanie will polymer stop weeds from growing through the cracks

Can I use it to join my existing flag stone patio instead of grouting it?
I removed all the old grout out. I m happy if it lasts for just this season, until I am ready for a professional for next season.
I have many physical difficulties and this looks much less demanding of my carpel tunnel hands, tendernitis wrists, tennis elbow elbows, subluxation shoulders… and aching joints.
Please kindly advise. Thank you !
Hi, Bonna,
Yes, the polymer sand would work great for your flagstone. Make sure you follow the directions.
Best of luck to you!
