Yellow table
There’s a Simple Solution for polyurethane that yellows over time.

Here’s a question from our 7/20/2019 Today’s Homeowner Radio Show.

Aisha in Michigan says, “I constructed custom tabletops for the sewing and project tables in my sewing room.
Each tabletop was painted a soft white, decoupaged and then sealed with several (about 4-5) layers of polyurethane.

“About two months later, I noticed significant yellowing in different areas of my tabletops.
I want to refinish and protect both with a sealant, but would love to know what you recommend as the best for white painted surfaces which will not yellow, or amber, over time.”

We tell Aisha to sand the surface of the table with 20-grit paper. Lightly sanding it may eliminate the yellow color and then she’ll be able to recoat it with a thin coat.
