To insulate the walls of the First Time Homeowner house, holes were drilled in the exterior sheathing, and cellulose insulation blown in to fill the wall cavities while smaller voids were sealed with spray foam. The holes were then filled with plugs, and the exterior of the house covered in housewrap.
The old, drafty windows on the house were replaced with new energy efficient windows with vinyl frames from JELD-WEN Windows & Doors. The windows were sealed around the edges with caulking and butyl based flashing tape to make sure they’re airtight.
In addition, the windows feature impact resistant glass, to reduce the chance of damage during hurricanes or other storms. The glass also includes a Low-E coating, and the space between the double-pane glass is filled with argon gas for added energy efficiency.
