Applying window film to glass doors and windows around your home can help reduce glare, block UV rays, and reduce energy costs by reducing solar heat gain.
Follow these steps for application:
- Clean the glass thoroughly, making sure you get in the corners and around the edges without leaving any lint on the surface.
- Measure and cut the film about an inch larger than the dimensions of the glass you’re covering.
- As you separate the film from the liner, spray it with a soap and water mixture. The glass should also be coated with this solution before you apply the film to the glass.
- Use a small squeegee or old credit card to force out the liquid and air trapped beneath the film. Work your way from the center outward so the bubbles disappear at the edges.
- Wrap the squeegee with a paper towel to dry the surface before cutting off the excess around the edges with a utility knife.

Applying window film to glass doors and windows around your home can help reduce glare, block UV rays, and reduce energy costs by reducing solar heat gain. First, clean the glass thoroughly, making sure you get in the corners and around the edges without leaving any lint on the surface. Measure and cut the film about an inch larger than the dimensions of the glass you’re covering. Then you can separate the film from the liner using a couple of pieces of ordinary cellophane tape. As you separate the film from the liner, spray it with a soap and water mixture. The glass should also be coated with this solution before you apply the film to the glass. Next you’ll spray the exposed surface of the film with the same solution. Use a small squeegee or old credit card to force out the liquid and air trapped beneath the film. Work your way from the center outward so the bubbles disappear at the edges. Then wrap the squeegee with a paper towel to dry the surface before cutting off the excess around the edges with a utility knife.

I have been trying to apply my window film over and over according to the written instructions that came with my film. It was missing one huge step which wetting the film! This helped me so much and made the application easy and perfect.
I have the film that is silver and brown—it seems the silver side is the side to put on the window–but I wanted the brown for the outside to match the house. Which is the correct side to “see through” and which is the mirrored side?
Hi, Colleen,

However, it’s too important to guess, and we don’t want to steer you in the wrong direction. Your best bet is to check the manufacturer’s directions or contact their customer service.
Good luck!
