If you have old, single pane windows, chances are you’re losing a lot of energy dollars. The best solution is installing new, insulated glass units. But that’s an expensive fix; and, frankly, not in everybody’s budget.

Here’s a low-cost solution to get you through the upcoming winter. Window insulation kits are a type of plastic film that you place on the inside of the windows, usually around the frames of the window openings. That means you have a two to three inch insulating air gap between the plastic film and the glass of the windows.

Double stick tape is used to keep the plastic in place, then a blow dryer shrink wraps it, so no wrinkles can be seen and a clear view is still available. It’s just a seasonal fix, but one that can save you a lot of money.
