JELD-WEN Windows & Doors

A little home with a lot of Southern charm gets a fresh start with the latest in window and door replacement

Windows and doors should play a starring role in every home, according to home improvement expert Danny Lipford, television host of Today’s Homeowner.

That’s especially true at the Kuppersmith Project, where Lipford and his crew have been working to transform a neglected 86-year-old home in Mobile, Alabama, into a modern, low-maintenance marvel.

Family room with large sliding glass doorsWhen it came to selecting windows and doors, the crew had two priorities in mind: to maintain the historic integrity of this Tudor-style home, and to deliver some of the most advanced performance options available. The JELD-WEN® Custom Wood and Siteline EX windows and doors chosen feature AuraLast®, a proprietary process designed to prevent wood rot, termites and water saturation, and comes with an industry-leading 20 year warranty.

Made from solid pine, JELD-WEN AuraLast Wood is manufactured using a vacuum-pressured process that helps protect the wood all the way through to the core. In addition, AuraLast Wood features many sustainable benefits. JELD-WEN uses a closed-loop, water-based system, selected because it does not harm the environment with hazardous, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) found in most other traditional wood preservation methods.

With Low-E glass and argon-filled, dual-pane glass to keep the interior of the home comfortable and energy use low all year long, these windows and doors are also highly efficient. Additionally, they will protect the home’s furnishings from fading and discoloring, while still allowing for maximum day lighting, which limits the need for additional artificial lighting and further reducing energy costs. That’s important, given the expansive amount of windows and doors used in the home, which total 33 custom-sized Siteline EX wood windows and a four-panel Custom Wood sliding patio door. This window and door system stretches nearly 16 feet to provide maximum indoor outdoor living.

“Outdoor living is important in the south, but given some of our extreme weather conditions, we also need products designed to protect both interior and exterior home investments. That was the deciding factor for us to go with JELD-WEN,” said Lipford. “When it comes to wood, no one else even comes close to offering the beauty, durability, reliability and low-maintenance protection that these windows and doors provide.”

Style is also on display at Kuppersmith. Divided lights, delivering historic paned-glass style, complement the home’s character beautifully. The custom shapes and sizes available through JELD-WEN made it easy for Lipford’s crew to get the traditional styles they were looking for without sacrificing any of the innovative performance features.

“These windows and doors deliver on the quality and benefits we really wanted for this project,” said Lipford. “This home can now continue to be a wonderful part of the neighborhood for many more years to come.”
