What’s the proper height for vinyl shutters? Should they stop at the bottom of the trim or go all the way to the top? -Kristy

Hi Kristy,
Shutters used to be functional and could be opened and closed. They were sized and hinged to extend from just above the window sill to the bottom of the top trim, with the sides overlapping the trim.

Since most shutters today only serve a decorative purpose, the alignment and placement isn’t as important. While you can hang them in the traditional manner, they are often mounted flat on the wall outside the trim boards. The length will be limited by the sizes available, so you may not have a much choice anyway.

Good luck with your project,

Danny
