When planting in a pot or container:

  1. Place screen wire over the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot or container to prevent loss of soil.
  2. Use a prepared potting soil, rather than dirt from your yard, to ensure the soil is free from disease and insect pests.
  3. Plant your plants at the same depth they were originally planted at.
  4. Apply a time-release fertilizer on top of the soil to keep plants healthy all season long.

  1. I decided to plant a couple of hanging baskets this year in addition to buying a few from a local gardener. The pots from gardener are doing great but the ones I planted look like they are dying. I purchased potting soil and added fertilizer to them. When I water mine the water seems to stay on top vice draining. The ones from gardener drain through holes in bottom. My hanging baskets have drainage holes. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
