How to Repurpose a Folding Table into a Workbench

Four pipes on a workshop table during a Simple Solutions segment of Today's Homeowner
Four pipes can be all you need to create a more comfortable workspace for your projects.

Folding tables are great to have when extra people visit for dinner. However, once they’re beaten up and past their prime, they’re no longer appropriate for this purpose.

But you can repurpose them in your workshop or garage.

Just transform that old folding table into a workbench that you can store away when you no longer need to use it.

Folding tables are just 29 inches tall, manufactured, and that’s uncomfortable for working while standing up, but with a few simple tweaks you can make it more manageable.

We’re going to extend the legs with a 1-inch-diameter PVC pipe. Just slip the pipe over each metal leg and cap the bottoms. Don’t bother gluing each pipe; just put it on.

Now, you have a table that has a working height of about 36 inches, which is comfortable, countertop height.

And, when you don’t need it, you can fold it up and store it away.

    • Hi, Betty!

    • Hi, Tena!
We had these pieces on hand and didn’t cut them to size.
Choose a comfortable working height for you, and let that guide the pipes’ size.
As long as you cut each piece the same size, you can’t go wrong.
      Good luck. 🙂
