Mission: Make a Small Bathroom Look Bigger

Some older homes are loaded in charm, but not much space — even in the master bathroom.

A common dilemma for homeowners is figuring out how to make a master bathroom, which is anything but, live up to its name.

Fortunately, simple changes can have a big impact. For instance, simply installing a ceiling mount shower curtain rod can make your bathroom look taller. It also makes a small space look bigger.

And it doesn’t require special skills or tools — just some time, a drill and the right hardware.

Ready for this project? You’ll need a regular shower rod and brackets designed for mounting it on the bathroom ceiling.

How to Install a Ceiling Mount Shower Curtain Rod

First, determine the shower curtain rod’s location by measuring from the back wall to the edge of the tub. Then transfer that measurement to the ceiling.

If you’re close to the walls, there should be framing above the ceiling to drive the screws into; if not, you may need to add blocking in the attic. This will allow provide a strong surface to hold the ceiling mount shower curtain rod.

Once you have secured the brackets, install the curtain rod, the curtain hooks and finally the curtain to complete the project.
