Maintaining a home is a year-round job, so it’s a good idea to spread out the work into smaller chore lists you can tackle at the start of each season.

We call it the 4 Seasons of Home Ownership.

Falling leaves can wreak havoc on your home’s drainage systems. Clear gutters and downspouts to ensure rainwater flows off the roof and away from your home’s foundation.

For fall, the list includes things like inspecting gutters and downspouts, draining the lawn irrigation system, and caulking your home’s exterior cracks.

The fall is also a good time to install any storm windows and doors for extra protection from the cooler weather and snowstorms that will come soon enough.

There are a few things every homeowner should do before the weather turns cold, and one of them is ‘sealing the envelope,’ which is just another way of saying caulking the exterior’s cracks and gaps.

This is also a great time to check the weatherstripping around your home’s windows and doors. If any is damaged, replace it now before it becomes too cold and uncomfortable to do so later.

Grass stops growing as the weather cools down to about 50 degrees Fahrenheit. So, you’ll need to drain the lawnmower’s gas, tune up the engine and sharpen the blade.

But you won’t have to do any of this alone. We’re here with how-to guides and advice, to help!
