Two options that come to mind when considering an inexpensive flooring material for your home are carpet and laminate. Here are some of the pros and cons of each.
- Carpet: This is generally the least expensive flooring available at around $1 a square foot ($10/square yard). However, laying carpet is not a very do-it-yourself friendly project, so you will probably need to add in the cost of installation into the price. Carpet is available in a number of textures and colors.
- Laminate: This synthetic wood flooring is a DIY-friendly option for flooring that cost around $2 per square foot. Be sure to add into that the cost for any accessories like threshold strips and quarter round. Laminate is a floating floor with the pieces locking together without the use of glue or nails. This makes laminate easy to install as well as simple to remove if needed.
