1. Complete DIY Projects

If you are creative and handy, you can tackle various do-it-yourself projects to save money.

For example, if you are good at sewing, you can create your own curtains and throw blankets; if you are interested in woodworking, you can build furniture.

Lacking in DIY skills? A novice can create this rope wall art. It’s perfect to fill a large wall, plus it’s inexpensive and easy to assemble. Here’s what you’ll need:

First, choose an assortment of circular household objects that you can trace around to create three differently sized templates on a poster board.

Next, cut out the circles and repeat until you have nine.

Coil the rope around the circles and attach it using multi-surface glue. Use the thicker rope on the larger circles and the thinner rope on the smaller circles. Set a heavy object on top of the circles until they dry.

Use at least two staples to secure the circles together. (3 Echoes Content Studio)

Then, arrange the circles in the pattern you like, upside down on the table and staple them together from the backside.

Finishing nails have small heads, so they’ll hide in between the rope rows. (3 Echoes Content Studio)

Once they’re secure, drive finishing nails between the rows of rope to hang it.

2. Rework Pieces You Already Own

Rather than buy new things, you can often update old ones at a fraction of the cost. With a little imagination and creativity, you should be able to transform dated items into a whole new creation.

For example, if you have some old throw pillows that no longer match your design aesthetic, you can always recover them with a new fabric that meets your needs.

The same can be done for furniture. You can always paint furniture, add new hardware or reupholster items, such as couches and chairs.

3. Create a Realistic Budget

Establishing an effective interior design budget — and sticking to it — can also help you to save money.

First, determine what items you need for the project and what price point is realistic to achieve your vision.

Then, visit your local furniture store to find something that speaks to you but is within your price range.’

4. Purchase Used Items

People often overlook the amount of money they could save by purchasing used decor and furniture.

If you are on a budget, this is a great option because thrift-store finds cost pennies on the dollar compared to new items.

Thrifting is also good for the environment because you can sometimes save things from ending up in a landfill.

Start by visiting local thrift stores or checking online classifieds.

You will likely come across something that sparks your interest, or you can choose items that simply need to be updated with paint or repairs.

These tips are starting points for sticking to your budget and saving money — without sacrificing style.
