Tip #2: Jacking up the thermostat won’t heat the house faster.
It’s the middle of winter and you come home from work to find that the thermostat has been turned down and it’s freezing in the house. Impatient to get the house warmed up quickly, you crank up the heat.
I’ve got bad news for you, a furnace delivers heat at the same rate no matter how high you set the thermostat. The only difference raising the thermostat higher than needed will make is in how long the furnace will run.
You’ll probably end up turning the thermostat back down when you get hot, which means that the temperature inside is now too high, and you’ve needlessly increased your heating bill.
