Scrub brushes work well for cleaning, but they require a lot of elbow grease. To convert a standard hand scrub brush into a power attachment for your drill:
- Cut the handle off a round scrub brush.
- Drill a hole in the middle of the brush.
- Insert a 4-inch long machine bolt in the hole from the bristle side.
- Put a washer and nut on the back side and tighten it up.
- Chuck the bolt into a drill.
- Run the drill at medium speed when using the scrub brush attachment.

Joe Truini: There is a wide variety of scrub brushes available for cleaning hard surfaces in the kitchen and the bathroom, and they all work pretty well.
The problem is you have to scrub by hand, and where’s the fun in that, so I decided to introduce a little power.
I took a long-handled scrub brush, and I drilled a hole down the center. And I attached a 4-inch-long machine bolt, and I chucked it into a drill. So now I have a power scrubber. Here’s how it works.
I’m going to spray a little tile cleaner on the floor here, and I’m going to run the drill at medium speed—not too fast—and it’s going to scrub this clean easily and quickly. How about that!
If you try this trick, you’ll find that you never go back to hand scrubbing again.
