Joe Truini loosening screws with screwdriver and wrench

When using a manual screwdriver to loosen a screw, you often need a little extra leverage to get the screw started. Here are three ways to loosen stubborn screws: If you have a square-shaft screwdriver, take an adjustable wrench, tighten it onto the shaft of the screwdriver, and then press down with one hand as you turn the wrench. Once you get the screw started, you can remove pull it the rest of the way with just the screwdriver. If the screwdriver has a hexagonal shaft, slip a small ratcheting box-end wrench onto the screwdriver, and again use the wrench as leverage. But, what if the screwdriver has a round shaft? The wrenches won’t work, but you can still loosen up the screw with a pair of locking pliers. Just lock the pliers onto the shaft and twist out the screw
