We are installing large porcelain tile (16″) in our bedroom. Subflooring is plywood. My husband has gone under the house and determined that our joist spans are HUGE! Not the standard 16″. More like 24 to 30 something which causes the floor to bow when we walk on it. Should we stabilize between the joists before laying/installing the cement backing and doing the tile work? Our concern is getting it all laid down, installed and then having the tiles/mortar crack when we walk across the floor or put our furniture in the room.

What is the best underlayment for a tile roof? Is it necessary to have a double layer? Can I use GAF deck armor for the first layer and Black Paper #30 LB on top over it and below the tile?

A subcontractor took measurements for the master bath so we could order the correct amount of tile. We also measured ourselves and in some places there are huge discrepancies. The title is way too expensive to make ordering mistakes and it can’t be returned. How would this happen? Is this a scam to get us to order excess material? Should we hire someone separately to re-measure?
