My home has no soffits and only two gable vents. For the first time in 16 years, I’m seeing a lot of moisture, mold, mildew in the attic. I’m about to put on a new roof, so if I add ridge vents, will this solve the problem? Do I need to add a turbine?

Maria in CA
I have wood floor, someone glued plywood down I want to pull up and refinish the original wood floor. How do I pull up plywood?

Karen in OH
I am about ready to put up Durock Cement Board on my tub wall. I have blown in, insulation between the studs that is now exposed. This wall is an exterior wall. I have 2 questions:
1. Do I need to put tar paper or something over this open area before I put up the cement board? I am worrying a little about the insulation not being protected on the inside and if that paper or other product applied would create any mold build up behind it in any way. (not breathable enough etc.)
2. When I put up the cement board and tape it off, will I need something like the Laticrete Hydro Barrier product to seal the taped corners and seams as well as the rest of the cement board before I tile it? If I do need something like this, can you recommend something from a big box store?

The grout will not stay in the tile after a couple months. It starts to fall out. The tile is in the shower on the walls. I re-grout about once every two years. I don’t know what I am doing wrong. The grooves in the tile are not too far apart. Do I mix the sealer with the grout?

Jeff in MO
I have never had raccoons in the attic, but they have torn the shingles off the same spot on the roof several time. What is it about that spot that attracts them and is there something I can spray or coat that area to get them to go away?

Janey in NV
Can you tell me when the best time of the year is to paint the outside of my house? I’m not doing it myself, but if I’m paying someone else, I want it to be done right.

Billie in MS
I’ve seen someone use HardiPlank as a flooring. They glued it down, stained it and sealed it and it looks really great. Is this a good idea? I’m thinking of doing it in my home.

Jodi in NC
I’m adding insulation in a building. Does the paper get turned toward the ceiling or toward the attic? Should I use spray-in instead?

Nora in FL
I discovered a lot of dust build-up in my bathroom vent fan. What’s the safest way to clean it without damaging the electronics of the fan?

Ronnie in TX
I messed up door on stainless steel refrigerator door by using very old dry stainless steel cleaner to remove scotch tape residue on the door. Results horrible, left severe rub, scrub marks where it was scrubbed. Can I use the Liquid Stainless Steel on this door with + results? So upset with look of this door. Refrigerator is less than 2 years old.

Maria in FL
I live in Jacksonville, FL and I don’t know if I should water the lawn before or after a hard freeze because I’m on the water. So the winds are stronger.

Janet in VA
I live in an area where there are a lot of septic tanks. I’ve heard that it’s a really bad idea to allow bleach to get into the tank, but there are times when you have to use bleach to clean. Is this doing harm to my septic tank or is this an old wives’ tale?
