Questions Answered on This Week’s Show

Bob – PA
I have gutters/heat strips but the snow/ice melts on the deck. Then at night freezes on the deck in front of the door. Is grates the way to go, and where do I find them?

Dirk – GA
I replace my #9 filters about every 45 days. They are very dirty even at that time. I have tried every 30 days. Regardless, if I completely dust all furniture and wall, my house has a fine to heavy layer of dust, you can write your name in it, after about 1 week. Thoughts?

Gerald – MA
I have a squeak in the sub flooring under the vinyl flooring in my bathroom. How can I eliminate the squeaky sub flooring without tearing up the vinyl flooring?

Camy – AL
How do you install a backsplash on tongue and groove knotty pine in a kitchen? I would like something sanitary and nice. We removed the old laminate and it was so nasty behind it where things went through the slots on the t & g. Any ideas on how to fix? House was built in 1966 or so.

Jackie – PA
Will a floor paint stick to a concrete surface that has been previously sealed?

Chris – MA
Should we have our house washed and painted before or after we have replacement windows installed?

Tommy – MO
Is there a way to repair the bottom edge of the press board type siding. It is flaking apart from age, weedeater, mowing etc. I was wondering if I could put a solid board along the bottom edge to cover and protect.

John – CA
We are looking to update our kitchen backsplash. Or condo is a mid-century modern with concrete shadow blocks on one wall. We realized the previous owner affixed plywood to the concrete block wall and then screwed the cabinets into it. Well they applied the glass tiles to the plywood! Now that we want to apply subway tiles we’re trying to figure out how to apply the tiles to the section that has plywood instead of drywall. Do we have to cut out the plywood? Do we apply cement board over the plywood? What’s the best approach?

Mark – MS
The subcontractor stapled the insulation paper-side down in the crawl space. Is that a problem, and if so, what is it?

Beverly – MI
I have a couple of lower level windows that have small areas of wood rot inside at the lower sash. What is the best way to repair that (other than installing new windows)?
