How to Shovel Snow Safely

When you shovel snow, or anything for that matter, it’s important to always lift with your legs, not your back. Bend at the knees, not at the waist.

Then step into the direction you’ll be throwing the snow, so that you won’t twist your lower back. That’s what causes the next morning soreness that so many people complain about.

It’s also a good idea to put some space between your hands on the shovel handle, so that you get more leverage, making the work less tiring. And don’t be too ambitious, only scoop up an amount you can easily move.

With that in mind, when you’re choosing a snow shovel, pick one with a blade size that’s right for you, so that you can work efficiently. It won’t make the job any more fun, but it will be easier.
