How to Strengthen Shower Walls

Tub and shower after remodel Danny and Joe welcome callers’ questions each week on the Today’s Homeowner Radio Show.

Here’s a question from our Jan. 25 broadcast:

Bob needs advice picking the best material for sturdy walls that would go behind plastic shower panels.

A great option would be to go with the cement backer board. Glue it to the studs with construction adhesive, use screws, and finish the seams with thin-set adhesive and add some fiberglass tape (and smooth any creases that might show through the plastic panels).

Also, Bob should consider putting in additional blocking for future grab bars.
