How to Remove Pet Stains From Carpet

When Spot leaves his own spot on your carpet, don’t panic. Many times you can solve the problem without calling in a professional.

First, make a solution of two tablespoons of Spic and Span detergent in one gallon of warm water, and scrub the area with a cloth or sponge. Then rinse it with one-half cup of white vinegar in a gallon of warm water. This will help neutralize the detergent, preventing it from attracting dirt.

Finally, blot the area with a dry towel. If a pet uses the same location repeatedly, then you may have to call in a professional steam cleaner or even replace the pad beneath the carpet.

It may also be necessary to bleach or disinfect the wood or concrete beneath the flooring to kill off any remaining odor-causing bacteria.
