The key to successful painting is “roller management.” First, buy a telescoping extension handle for your roller frame. Your back will thank you. Before you start using a new paint-roller cover, “condition” it by dampening it with a plant mister, then roll it against a piece of cardboard to remove the loose fibers. If you don’t, those fibers will show up in wet paint on the wall. Before filling the roller tray with paint, line it with aluminum foil. When the job is complete you can wad up the foil and toss it out for easy clean up. When it’s time to take a break for more than a few minutes, slip your hand inside a plastic shopping bag and pull off the roller cover. Then wrap the cover tightly inside the bag and store in the refrigerator.
