Here’s a question from our 6/1/2019 Today’s Homeowner Radio Show.
Joel from Maine says, “I have a wraparound farmers porch. The overhead of the porch is white and has substantial black mildew on it.
I wash it each spring with soap and water, but it always comes back. I want to paint it — what steps do I need to follow, to kill the mildew and coat with a mildew-resistant (if such a thing exists) paint?”
We tell Joel to clean the surface really well using either Zinsser Jomax or TSP. Then add 3 coats of paint to the wood.
To add extra protection Joel can mix in M-1 to the primer before the overhead is painted.
