Brian Santos visited and shared some information from his new book, Painting and Wallpapering Secrets from Brian Santos, The Wall Wizard. Here are Brian’s suggestions on how to strip wallpaper:

Wallpaper stripping mixture:

  • 3 gallons hot water
  • 22 oz. wallpaper stripper (DIF)
  • 1/4 cup of fabric softener
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda

To strip wallpaper:

  1. Perforate the wallpaper surface.
  2. Mix up the ingredients and pour in a pump-up sprayer.
  3. Saturate the wallpaper with the mixture.
  4. Cover the wall with 6-mil plastic.
  5. Allow mixture to work for three hours.
  6. Peel off wallpaper.
