What to Do About Faded Wood Floors

Here’s a question from our 6/22/2019 Today’s Homeowner Radio Show.

Ronnie from Alabama says, “Our oak hardwood floors are 13 years old and they are in good condition, except for a couple of issues.

“When we moved in, we put down a plastic protector under the office rolling chair. We picked it up to clean under it and the floor has dark stains on the hardwood, which kind of look like burned or dark oxidization.

“Also, we just picked up a runner and it looks as though the wood has dried out.

“What do you recommend to deal with these issues?”

We tell Ronnie this issue could have been caused by exposure to sunlight.

One option would be to remove items like a runner or furniture from the discolored area to see if, over time, the same change happens to other parts of the wood.

Another option is a product called Guardsman Watermark Remover, which may help eliminate some of the discolored boards.
