It’s not uncommon for people who have an unused room in their home to close off the air vents and shut the door in an effort to conserve energy. It’s only natural to think that by eliminating an area to be heated or cooled, you will save money.
But the truth of the matter is that in many cases, you’ll do more harm than good. Central heating and air systems today are balanced for the homes they service.
By shutting off one or more rooms, you throw the system out of balance, causing the unit to cycle on and off more frequently, which costs you more money.
So keep the balance in your home and in your heating and cooling system. Keep those doors and vents wide open.
