Choosing a Countertop

When it’s time to update a kitchen, the largest surfaces make the biggest statements. Since your countertops are prone to a lot of use and abuse, make sure you choose a surface that will last.

For many years, the go-to top was made from plastic laminate. Now, this is one of the least expensive tops, but it’s also one of the surfaces that can be damaged very easily, so additional care should be exercised when choosing this surface.

Natural stone, like granite, has come down in price in recent years and is much more durable, but it does need to be sealed at least every other year.

Solid surface is a man-made material that often isn’t as attractive as natural stone, but it’s easy to maintain and comes in a wider variety of colors than stone.

Choose wisely; a countertop based solely on budget could turn into a disappointment.
