Mosquitoes are annoying any time of the year, but they really can spoil a summer night. Spray repellents may work, but they usually leave you feeling like you just swam through an oil slick.

Planting rosemary and lemon grass around the yard will help repel mosquitoes, but one of the most effective ways to get rid of them is by erecting a bat house in your yard. Bats eat an astounding amount of mosquitoes; and they aren’t the notorious, vicious monsters often depicted in the movies.

In addition to eating thousands of flying insects each night, bats also deposit guano—one of the best fertilizers you can use for your garden. Just be sure to place the bat house in a far corner of your yard, and then leave them alone.

Before long, you just might have your own personal pest control service.
