Here’s a question from our 08/17/2019 Today’s Homeowner Radio Show.

Laurel in South Dakota says, “I had a deck put on two years ago, the floor is 2-by-6 pine. It was treated with two coats of oil stain. This summer, it was starting to have [sap] leaking up from the wood in several places.

“Have tried both Murphy’s Oil Soap and mineral spirits. Both worked for a few days, but it comes right back and is very annoying. Do you have any solutions to this problem?”

We tell Laurel that if she wants to try Murphy’s Oil again, she should try and submerge the troubled areas. She can also use WD-40 or acetone but this method may damage the finish.

Of course, when the weather does freeze the sap, she could scrape it off with a putty knife.
