Spring is here, and with warmer weather comes a different set of home chores you need to take on to keep your home in tip-top shape.

The same way you cycle out your winter wardrobe for your spring attire, you need to cycle out the cold-weather chores for spring tasks.

We partnered with our friends at The Home Depot to compile a spring list of tasks to give your home some TLC. It’s packed with manageable tasks to help your home run effectively and efficiently.


Top 10 Spring Home Must-Do List

Don’t take a rain check on these essential spring home maintenance chores.

A heating and cooling specialist should check your air conditioner at least twice a year.

1. Service Your HVAC System

Have a professional service your A/C and heating systems. The last thing you want is for your air conditioner to break down later in the summer.

2. Clear Away Leaves from A/C

Be sure to clear away leaves and debris from the A/C condenser unit.


3. Clean Gutters and Roof

“Spring clean” rain gutters and downspouts, and make repairs, if necessary.

While you’ve got your ladder out, go ahead and clean debris off your roof.


5. Clean and Repair Window Screens

Clean and repair window screens. While you have your screens out for cleaning, be sure the tracks are clean and lubricated.

7. Lubricate Hinges

Lubricate exterior hinges, gates, garage door tracks and locks. Any moving part in your home needs to be lubricated to function efficiently this spring.

8. Sharpen Garden Tools

Sharpen gardening tools and inspect your wheelbarrow. Doing this now will spare you the headache of doing it later in the season when you’ll be using them more often.

9. Prepare Garden Beds

Prepare all flowerbeds and plants. Now’s the time to remove debris and till the soil.

10. Reverse Ceiling Fans

Reverse ceiling fans to counterclockwise direction to blow air down.


The static electricity in dryer sheets will attract dust from ceiling fan blades and keep it in place.

Although not essential, these tasks will make a difference in the look and feel of your home this spring.
