Cleaning your gas grill is important to its lifespan. Here’s how to clean it properly:

  1. Remove grates from the grill, spray with liquid grill cleaner.
  2. Allow grates to soak before cleaning with a wire brush.
  3. Remove burner covers and scrape with a wire brush.
  4. Take out burners and scrape off debris.
  5. Clean burner holes with a toothpick.
  6. Use a wet-dry vac to remove the remaining debris from inside the grill.

Performing this simple maintenance on your grill will ensure that it lasts for many years to come.

  1. Hi Danny –

These are great tips, thanks a lot!
Unfortunately, my gas grill tends to build up with more of a gooey residue on the inside, so using a shopvac to clean is not possible. Do you have any tips for removing that gooey residue?

    Thanks and Regards,
    Dan

    • Hi Dan,
If you leave the grill on for an hour or so with nothing cooking and the lid down, it will burn off all the grease, making it easier to clean. It can get very hot, so keep the grill out in the open and away from flammable objects, and don’t leave it unattended. Also, keep in mind that if it gets too hot it may burn the paint off painted metal grills. Good luck with your project!

  2. Hi Danny, The cover was unfortuantely left off of my gas grill for a while. A bird moved in, built a nest, layed eggs, chicks were hatched, and then died inside the grill. I threw away and ordered all of the replaceable interior grill parts…the cooking grids, the warming rack, and 4 heat plates. I also vacummed any remaining debris with a shop vac. The only issue I need some direction with is some dried stains from bird feces, not solid waste, but just remaining stains. What is the best way to remove the bird dropping stains and is there any danger in cleaning or using grill to cook food after attempts to clean?

  3. One easier tip that works for me is regarding cleaning the BBQ grate. If you have access to a pressure washer it will do a great job on your grate and even the grill interior. It is quick and easy with no scrubbing or harsh chemicals. Just be sure to do it somewhere that the greasy debris won’t do any harm. Have a great summer everyone!

  4. Robins built a large nest in my grill, left a huge mess, do I need to replace everything inside or can I use pressure washer and heat from grill to clean everything ?
    thanks
    Don

  5. I always just ran the grill full blast for 10-15 or so after cooking to burn off any grease, etc., then, after letting it cool back down, use a wire brush to knock of any of the light ash that remains. Damp, not soaking wet, paper towesl will remove any residue from the glass. Any ash build up on the bottom can be easily blown out with a small air compressor.
