The Basics of Mold Damage

Not only does mold damage the structures of your home, but it can also cause serious health problems. As such, mold needs to be dealt with ASAP. To help you spot mold growth before it gets out of hand, we’ve compiled this list of all the major early signs of mold growth.

• Water damage: Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and where there’s water damage, there’s mold. If you have a portion of your home affected by water damage, there’s a good chance mold will pop up.
• Foul smells: If you notice a musky, earthy odor coming from your walls, ceiling, or floors, you may have hidden mold growth.
• Allergies and health problems: Certain strains of mold can exacerbate allergies and other health problems. When exposed to mold over a long period, these symptoms can increase. If you notice yourself or a family member exhibiting these signs with no other apparent cause, you may have a mold problem.
• Peeling wallpaper or drywall spots: Technically, mold doesn’t cause wallpaper to peel, paint to bubble, or drywall to warp or discolor, but moisture does. If you spot these problems on your walls, moisture has found a way inside them, and mold will likely follow.
• Dark splotches: Mold can have many different appearances but often looks like small, dark-colored splotches on walls, ceilings, or floors.
