Potted plants look great outdoors on porches, patios, and decks; but they can dry out quickly during the hot summer months. When mixed into the soil of potted plants, Scotts Miracle-Gro Water Storing Crystals solve this problem by expanding to store many times their weight in water, which prevent potted plants from drying out as quickly.
Water Storing Crystals are available at The Home Depot.

You know, I like hanging plants, but to be honest they’re difficult to keep watered because they’re surrounded all the time by air, and the water evaporates out of the soil. Well I’ll tell you what, those smart folks over at Miracle-Gro have come up with a good solution.
Now this is Water Storing Crystals, and when you mix these with the soil, what they do is they will absorb water to twice their size – if not more – and then they store that water and release it back into the soil over time. So what does this do? It helps eliminate the use of a lot of water to keep your plants watered, it can help reduce over watering, under watering, and if you live in areas where say the climate is prone to drought or high heat, this helps keep water in the soil.
So this helps really eliminate a lot of those problems if you, like me, have a hard time watering your plants.
